Portal Axles

The Ineos factory (experimental?) portal axle version will be in Vail, CO. Check with REd Noland, the Colorado dealer for details on timing.

Not sure what year it would come out. It may end up being a dealer installed option, so it may be able to be post added to MY24.

What do people think on:
-Height added? 2, 4, 6 inches? Is 100mm standard?
-What installed cost? I don’t see it as a factory option for the G-wagon? After market seem $15-30k?

I think the IG could use a bit more height to it- but it would make it a dedicated non-garage car, and limit it even in a lot of parking. Portals are what, an order of magnitude more expensive than a lift? Definately more capable- and it seems that a lift on an IG is iffy- maybe more because of the installer than the actual engineering- but if Ineos isn’t going to warranty a lifted IG for axle damage, a manufactuer portal starts to look a lot better, especially if it is closer to $15k. 10k would make it a lot easier to swallow.

Interesting.

I signed up for a interest group they had back on their webpage regarding the limited runs but it also mentioned the portals. One thing I remember from my 4x4 squared was they do require oil changes depending on how often you change your oil but I had to do them every 10 or 12k.... Needless I didn't keep that one long because I made money off of it in the resale. lol But I would love the IG to have portals. I would like to see with portals at least 4" nothing less just because of the costs.

One of the Aussie dealers (maybe slrv?) was advertising this week that you can now order the portal axles. Saw it on their facebook, but have not seen any other dealers advertising it yet

So jealous we don't have this in the states yet......
I'm sure you can order the kit direct from LeTech... if it is similar to their G Wagen pricing, it should be in the neighborhood of $85,000USD

For height comparison, this is my truck on 33s (stock height suspension) next to a LeTech truck, with @Stu_Barnes stock height/stock tire Grenadier on the other side:

To answer @MileHigh 's question on height gained, between the tires (~2.5"), suspension, and portals, total height gained over a stock vehicle is in the neighborhood of 12-14". Getting in and out is... a unique experience based on your jungle gym abilities and comfort level when jumping off of a cliff. We spent a day riding around in convoy with the Quartermaster seeing the sights around Moab and referred to it as "The Cartoon Truck". I know Stu has better comparison photos

How do I explain to the wife that I need these on my Grenadier when I have done 20,000 miles with about 5 of those miles on a UK green lane, any ideas would be greatly appreciated? I just can't think of anything other than 'Wife, I bought you a huge diamond ring, yes, my Grenadier always looked like that, we must be shrinking, it happens as you get old'

well... the the reason you've only done 5 miles, is because you lack them. obviously.

The intention (as I understand it) is to have the option to buy a "LeTech" Grenadier directly from factory. just squint a little so you can't see the price.
I would have a better feeling if I had it converted by LeTech. I know LeTech well and really appreciate their work. I was there again just last week and looked at an MB G with portal axles, among other things. Great technology, excellent workmanship. The vehicle is for sale and is also offered on the LeTech homepage.
