I quite enjoy listening to the overland journal guys podcast. Particularly when they share experiences and motivations behind why they do some of the things they have done, or why they didn't. For instance they shared some thoughts on modifications that i really enjoyed, the verbalized well many of my thoughts that i perhaps would make more subconsciously than super explicitly.

I particularly liked this episode where they talk a lot about the Grenadier: "Principles of Overlanding: The Ineos Grenadier Models and Modifications"
I knew i didn't like the new defender but i couldn't explain exactly why. They put it really well, its moving towards a car that you drive with a handkerchief in your blazer.

I also liked how they articulated why they didn't go jeep, "its too focused on off-roading, i want the blend of off-road capability and on-road behaviour".
This sums me up perfectly.
I love their point about media and the chumminess of the marketing reps from the media companies. as someone who has to do a fair amount of media and analysts work in my industry i know how true this rings to me.

Anyway, i really like this podcast series, i think you would to.

Shortly, we’re going to be doing a podcast on my first round of modifications and my thought process behind them.
Sounds great.

If I could ask for one technical thing....
Invest in really good microphones. I'm partial to Røde microphones but Sennheiser makes good mikes too. Stick them in your face! Okay, maybe not right in your face but pretty close.
Use compressor and reverb to make your voices warmer.
Send the voices through an auto leveler. Almost all podcast equipment has that.

Mix your broadcast to -16LUFS, maybe -17.

When I listen to your podcast it's unevenly mixed and the level imbalance between guests and hosts are too high. And I think you would do well to use a bit of compression and reverb to make the voices a touch warmer.

I'm a former broadcast engineer but I'm not trying to nit pick. I find myself to mucking around with the volume button to hear your podcast properly due to the difference in levels. It's easy to clean up in post production. Mostly fully automated these days..

I should perhaps offer @mattexplore if you need help or advice don't hesitate to reach out. I'm more than a few years out of it but it hasn't changed that much. The tools are better and more automated than in my era but the basics is just about the same.

I rarely, if ever have listened to one of our podcasts, on the account of having been there!
 
What about Heil mics?
I havent used them much but I hear they are nice.
My go to in the high end was electro voice. Lovely microphones.

I think the podcast really would benefit from leveling each participant so they come across at the same volume level. And a touch of compression for better vocals, but that is more taste. Leveling is the thing I think would really up the production.

I'm a listener and really enjoyed this particular podcast as well since it helped inform some of my decision to purchase a new IG last week.

I also have other delightful auto enthusiast cars in the garage, yet I've been grabbing the IG keys instead because it's such a unique driving experience. If IA will own up to the pump steering squeal noise and transmission clunk, I can easily say it's one of my favorite cars I've ever owned.

Matt's point about the fundamental axle design flaw for those wanting to lift is spot on. I'm curious on what basis Scott's claiming an IG released fix for the front drive shaft issue since a local IG service recently reported via owner that there's been zero change to the front drive shaft.

Great feedback on audio. It definitely can use improvement so we can enjoy listening to more of the great OJP content! Thank you.

I listened to the episode where aev was a guest. The topic was loosely about the business side of the vehicles and one of the discussions was on rims, testing and warranty. I thought that was super interesting.

A comment was made that the Ineos appeals to people who like something unique. Something perhaps a bit quirky. May I say iconic?

I think the host said that the Ineos appealed to him in the same way as the Dodge viper appealed to him. I 100% agree! I own a viper and an Ineos and I feel very much that I connect to both in the same way. A perfect observation! I've had my viper since year 2000 and it's one of those cars I don't think I will ever sell.
