Hi guys, been a while since I posted on here.

I am after some advice around using a power adaptor that uses the OBD2 port for a dashcam, is anyone using the system and have they had any problems or is it pretty much plain sailing. Have read they can throw up some fault codes but a lot of that seems to be old posts around the internet. I believe the cable is fused and there is also a lower power sensor so it won’t just flatten the battery while parked.

It might be relevant to say I am looking at the fairly unobtrusive Nextbase Piqo 2k camera and the OBD cable that is associated with it.

I know all about the wolf box and hard wiring etc etc, but I don’t fancy taking half the vehicle apart and I want something that can be removed fairly quickly and easily. I have fitted one in my 2016 Amarok and that was a 10 minute installation with VW having the foresight to put a 24v socket on the top of the dash in the middle. I don’t have that luxury in the Gren.

I use an Escort M2 Dashcam that pairs with my Escort Redline 360 dash cam. It’s powered with their OBD2 cable and I’m very happy with it.

I tried a generic cable years ago with an X5 I had and wasn’t happy with it, the Escort stuff though all plays nicely together and it’s reliable.
