Hi guys,

Really stoked to join this community ! From Montreal Canada !

I’m in the Montreal area and I’m about to buy a new 2024 Grenadier base model (Salsa Green) with a few options.

My only issue: my garage opening is 81 inches (2057 mm). I need the Grenadier to be 80 inches max (79 would be ideal) to fit safely.

I’m looking at Letech lowering springs (advertised drop around 50–60 mm / ~2.0–2.4”). Any feedback on:
  • real-world drop you actually got (before/after height)
  • ride comfort and handling
  • any issues with alignment, CV angles, tire wear, rubbing, or warranty

Also, the vehicle has been sitting on the dealer lot for likely a year or more. What should I ask the dealer to check or service before delivery?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome, I bought a used Grenadier a little over a month ago from Dilawri in Toronto (I am in Ottawa). The main thing like any used vehicle is give it a good inspection and test...everything. It is still under warranty so you should be covered for most things but the key issues to look for are water intrusion (footwell, door sill and around safari windows if equipped), check for leaks in engine area (such as power steering resevoir) and under the vehicle (diffs, t-case etc0, run through the HVAC really well as some have issues (ensure AC works, heating works, ensure blowing out rear passenger console vents and the diverter is working properly and there is not weird noises), make sure you get both vehicle keys, and a pair of keys for the locking centre console, winch controller (if equipped), rear tire storage keys (if equipped), tool kit, safari window storage bag (if equipped) Depending on mileage (if a demonstrator) make sure the maintenance and software is up to date.

Are measuring the door opening or the bottom of the garage door edge when fully open (you can likely get a couple more inches of height manually adjusting the garage door to tuck up more into the garage opening by adjusting the height setting). Also I would really shy away from lowering a vehicle such as this 2-2.4" as that is quite a bit and somewhat defeats the pupose of the vehicle. I am assuming you are not looking at one equipped with lockers and planning on off-roading it if you are considering about shorter springs?

There's not a lot to be concerned about. I'd try negotiating for a new battery or at least have them check the condition of the original and properly charge it. You could have them check the coolant levels in both circuits and maybe do a power steering system bleed (the instructions are here on the forum somewhere I think). I doubt there would be enough seperation of the additive packages in any lubricating fluids to require a change but maybe consider an engine oil change after a short period (500-100 mi.). Lowering springs might add life to your front driveshaft CV boot. HTH.

Hey, thank you for taking the time to write all that out super helpful.

Honestly, I love the look of the Grenadier. I’m not really after the off-road capability or lockers; my goal is a solid, well built truck with as little electronics as possible. It would be a second vehicle for me in 2-3 year.

Also good point on the garage door height I’ll recheck my measurements and look into adjusting the door travel for a bit more clearance.
Thanks again, I appreciate it.

I personally wouldn't buy the truck if I had to lower it. What's the point? It'll look whack, trash the factory warranty and will likely create other drivetrain problems that no one else can help diagnose since no one lowers their 4x4. lol

HVAC system either works or it doesn't, but it'll likely require attn at some point if untouched.

Power steering reservoir leak is inconsequential. They all weep. Power steering bleed is a waste of time if fluid level checks out (ez).

Check the expansion tank coolant levels yourself instead of trusting someone else to do it for you. The high pressure one on the passenger side is more critical than driver side for the NA trucks. Make sure it's topped up to max. Only thing is it needs to be done cold.

I'd have the dealer align the truck with print out and ask them to max out caster.

Enjoy!

any issues with alignment, CV angles, tire wear, rubbing, or warranty

Salut Alex -

These are live (solid) axle trucks. There will not be an issue with tire wear if you use shorter springs / lower the vehicle as camber is fixed regardless of axle / suspension travel. These vehicles don't use CV joints as part of the front / rear axle half shafts like many IFS vehicles, they instead have double U-joints and those joints only articulate for steering movement (left/right) not suspension travel (up/down). Rzeppa (CV) joints on drive shafts will be fine with a more relaxed angle. Clearance with stock tires will be fine, they clear at full compression by design.

All that being said any modification to suspension can be cause for warrantee claim problems down the road. Also, If you drop 50-60MM you may very well be riding on the edge of the bump stops, which inevitably give a harsher ride.

Personally I would not lower it. Just modify your garage door trim or works case raise the header on your garage if you want to park inside :) You only need to cheat it by a couple inches :)
