Letter to Lynne Calder

Unless you start and stop the vehicle 30 times a day. I can’t understand why everyone is so happy to just accept nonsense that shouldn’t have to be. My BMW’s stay off, never have to re press the start stop. It’s not about training, it’s just not needed. I can get my Beaver in the air with less nonsense. The grenadier is a frustration. An unneeded frustration. Get in, turn key, wait for HVAC to cycle, start, turn off start/stop, don’t press fav too quick or you’ll crash car play, wait and wait, press fav, disable ADAS, pres fav again, cross fingers CarPlay doesn’t crash, put in drive.

Now My DHC-2

Spin Prop no hydro lock go
Master switch On
Prime 5x
Engage starter
Energize boost coil
Switch on Mags

Lots of smoke, the remaining cylinders fire, we’re off!

One is a truck that stays on the road, the other is airborne, can carry 2000lb in its cargo hold and can fall out of the sky.

Why is it I can fly a plane with more ease than a 2024 Ineos?
Yes, well said! This vehicle was all about simplification and easy to operate. All about signal and no noise... but all these small things, like you mentioned, do add up. Unneeded frustration, is the worst, because it's such an easy fix.

A lot of these issues, like the start stop, could be a simple software update. It can't take a lot of work, to let a button remember, it's position after engine off. Also the DPF burn is giving me a lot of frustration, a simple indicator (with time left) or an option to snooze, would completely solve the issue.

The problem is we don't have the power to fix it ourselves (we can't rewrite the software), and the dealers will just say it's normal operation, so they won't propose solutions. Only Ineos can solve this problem. We should have a sort of platform were we can report problems and vote them up or down, so users can indicate their biggest problems. If it's an easy fix, that's a lot of benefit for owners AND Ineos, with only little cost.

Can we also write a complaint to Ineos?

EU type approval does not allow the stop start to be permanently disabled. Your complaint on this matter should be addressed to Brussels.

I f you allow me to recommend: Stop complaining, drive & enjoy. If you need attention: Don't seek it from INEOS. Get your attention from anybody else, not from a car manufacturer.

Hit the 30.000km yesterday, and in overall experience it's an absolutely great vehicle!! I don't care about the stuff any more that caused minor annoyance (it's the same stuff you're complaining about) to me in the beginning. Not any more. It's the same, but it doesn't bother me any more. It does not spoil the overall experience.

Remember: Life's short!

I don’t know if it’s already been covered. On earlier 2023 models (no Adas). Can they at least increase the overlay window for the reverse camera on the next software update, it’s tiny.

Here is your mod

Exactly. And I'm sure IA will comply with whatever the EPA mandates in NA.
Meanwhile the EPA is your knight in shining armour. Even if armour these days is poncy CF.

Whatever the current appointed EPA head does will be undone in a future election so not a long term solution. I would think most auto makers will keep Start/Stop but bury it a menu somewhere to be activated/deactivated as needed via sw updates.

I seem to completely ignore the ADAS clicky now. Sometimes my foot will involuntarily lift off the accelerator pedal at the first click which shuts it off temporarily. I do press the fave on longer trips at some point but it really doesn't bother me as much as it once did. In truth I've also come to enjoy the lane keep chime and consider it a playful challenge to prevent it from going off. Unfortunately I now notice just how badly everyone else drives.

@Tom D - If your list of issues to discuss with Lynn C. hasn't grown too long I'd like to have the option of engaging the rear differential locker (only) while in High/Lock. Seems to me that it would be simple to add such a function via software and wouldn't require any vehicle modifications. For scenarios where low range isn't required, popping in a locker can be very helpful.

You’d be wrong, but ok, live with the annoyance and be happy. I don’t get people that accept nonsense and think it’s ok. But you do you

I'm sorry for you that you obviously didn't get a single point of what I said.
  • An annoyance is only an annoyance if it does annoy you. I said that I'm not annoyed any more. So, there is no annoyance I have to live with. QED.
  • I guess you should be the happiest person on the planet if there's not more "nonsense" in your life than some odd behaviour of your car that you don't like.
  • No, I don't accept nonsense. Thus my reply to your post ;-)

She has promised to come back to me on a few issues, She will come back with more info on the Manual by the 16th. So we should know more in a couple of weeks.

I stressed the importance of having parts diagrams for maintenance and accident repairs, she took that on board, so thats hopefully coming. I also asked about fault code reading and she is going to speak to the tech teams about that, She doesn’t have any issues with aftermarket suppliers offering readers from a commercial perspective, i.e. they aren’t trying to protect dealer only servicing. Her concern was more technical: - Allowing non IA providers to screw up the cars systems. Given that brands like AUTEL support just about every manufacturer out there I don't think this will prove too much of an issue. We’ll see where it goes.
A month on, has anyone heard how INEOS plans to gradually rollout access to the manual and a timeline? I think the community is all supportive of not rushing the door at once and are hoping for some kind of orderly plan to be published by INEOS.

Can you ask why 24.1 update isn’t available?
How about her feelings of the grenadiers being associated with clunkers by the unfamiliar public? When they come across a grenadier at parking lots/ red lights, they just hear an ear piercing whine.

Surely she would want to ensure her vehicles are presented as well as possible on the road?

Wouldn’t she feel energize to fix these whining power steering pumps on behalf of unsuspecting owners, but more selfishly, the appearance of grenadiers?

She will need to address more than just power steering noise, they already have the Land Rover reputation, crap dealer access , knowledge and service but worse than that a rep on the street of a good one is ok but a bad one is rubbish and there are too many bad ones

You guys have had it a year longer than we’ve had it - but not much “rep on the street” here. Most people are still saying - “wait, what is that?” Here, what scares people off is service access - they don’t want to be stuck somewhere and have to have it towed 500 miles. I don’t think lemon cases have scared off prospective buyers in the US.

On the Stateside, off-roading the truck is considered abuse and may void the warranty. (Unlike Land Rover, where off-roading is considered normal use.)
Cant tell if you are being sarcastic but that is the first time I have heard that. Our dealer sets up off road days and regularly asks about off road trips owners are doing. Never heard that using the truck for what it was intended for would void the warranty. Maybe a heavily modded truck might void certain aspects but not simply off roading.

The warranty in the owner's manual excludes damages caused by off-road trials. Normal off road use seems to be fine, unless you know something I don't...
