Letter to Lynne Calder

It would be interesting to know how many of the 20,000 owners mentioned in the conversation have problems and how this compares to normal industry stats. I know many products that are premium and that have failed spectacularly but only for some customers and not all. I mention s examples my current iPhone 16 Pro. Dog of a phone, 2 replacements and multiple software updates and only now nearly a year on is it working as advertised. Second example Siemens CT scanner. Dangerous glitches on biopsy mode, so stoped doing biopsies on it awaiting a fix, 2 years later Siemens said it was end of line and would I like to buy the new model which doesn’t have this glitch. I bought a Philips CT scanner instead. Doesn’t mean Apple and Siemens are bad companies, just means they are too big or it is too costly to deal with EVERY problem when only small numbers are affected. Hence my question. Of the 20,000 sold, how many have serious problems and how does this compare to the industry? Mine has had glitches but probably no more than any other vehicle I’ve bought new. My Peugeot 106 GTi blowing up engine in month two, or my BMW X6 having a major failure in every electronic system on month one are examples over the years. Do I think Peugeot or BMW make bad cars. No. I do think they have problems occasionally and the character of the company is how they fix them. Time will tell with regards Ineos as to their character I guess. And yes, I am thankful that I’m one of the lucky ones who has a very good service department, and a pretty well behaved grenadier.
Has anyone considered a poll for forum members to see how many actually have particular issues, i.e. hear from more than the squeaky wheels. Luckily for me, (and fingers crossed this doesn’t jinx me) the only “issue” I have is the steering whine. Otherwise all seems to work as advertised.

I'm delighted and I can wait. Buying a code reader/test book/whatever gadget I need is on the cards, when there is one. (Assuming I have/can afford to have a Grenadier).
Back to Colin as soon as I can get a reader and manual 😂👍

🤔I'm surprised that Bosch didn't figure in the diagnostics discussion since I was under the impression that the secret squirrel laptop used by the dealers was developed by Bosch. A "lite" version which enabled trouble code clearing and explanations would be ideal....

I think their reaction to any issues has been a damage multiplier and PR disaster. Take the PS pump. I never heard mine until this spring, and only now with the windows open and sitting beside a barrier or something. Nothing bad, but something on any other new car I'd report, and I will when the door recall happens. Now, if you're one of the people with a cat getting skinned alive every drive, and they do nothing, you're going to HAMMER that complaint everywhere and justifiably so. The issue may appear to have a greater frequency, because of the amplitude of the unresolved issues they let lay around.

Stupid, unless of course, there's no budget to cover it. Can't squeeze blood from a turnip.

I think you’re right - I bet a shop has to have the full Bosch diagnostics suite and when Ineos initially said they would have a network of independent Bosch-certified mechanics (what the hell is that anyways? There was exactly one in my city and they decided to drop it - it’s not a pervasive thing in the US), I bet that had more to do with diagnostics and software than we realized - and now they are cornered because who is going to pay for that, and the training, other than the dealer?

@Dlucky reported his dealer indicated Ineos has a 90db threshold to deem the ps whine a warranty approved issue

From Ineos this week…. 90 db is/was the magic number but maybe not now since everything is normal.

Hi Derek,

Thank you very much for contacting INEOS Automotive.

Following your concerns, I reached out to our US technical team to seek approval and clarification regarding the issues raised with your vehicle. They’ve now come back to us, and we can confirm that everything observed is consistent with normal operation for the Grenadier.

Power Steering Noise
The power steering system does produce some noise during regular use, typically in the range of 80–86 decibels. This is completely normal and the same across all Grenadier vehicles. Replacing the pump would not change the noise level, as it is part of the expected operation. That said, I completely understand your concerns, and to offer reassurance, we’d be happy for you to test drive or listen to other vehicles on the lot for comparison.

Climate Control System
As for the climate control, the outside air flap is designed to stay closed when the system is off or set to recirculated air. However, while driving, it automatically opens every 20 minutes to allow fresh air into the cabin—this is a safety feature to prevent carbon dioxide buildup. During this process, some airflow can be felt near the passenger footwell, which again is entirely normal behavior.

I do appreciate your concerns, of course. However, after a thorough review, we can confirm that everything identified is functioning as it should and does not indicate any fault with the vehicle.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any further assistance.

Thanks,

INEOS Grenadier Customer Service
