Has anyone got any recommendations for fire/theft etc vehicle insurance for overlanding / 4x4'ing in Morocco? I am based in the UK and have managed to get personal cover for the trip (Morocco is included within Europe for personal cover purposes) and I'll buy 3rd party insurance inside Morocco (the only insurance that tourists can buy), but I am really struggling to find anyone who will insure the Grenadier itself.

My broker has suggested contacting 'Tour Insure' who are based in Germany (I'll try them when they come online later this morning).

Any help appreciated...

Sorry can’t help there. Tour Insure wanted crazy money when I looked into cover for Southern Africa. I just went with e third party insurance at the border as I have with most African countries. . Most official campsites and car parks have guards or attendants. Just careful consideration when parking is what I relied on.
Have great travels.

Hi, I have just had a quote back from Tour Insure for €3,600 for 10-days cover!!! I will do what you and others are saying - stick with the 3rd party insurance as I enter and then be careful. We are in the desert and mountains most of the time, remote camping, hence should be extremely low risk. I'll just drive extra carefully on the tar roads getting from Tanger Med down to Merzouga.

LV will cover Morocco fully comp. Maybe Saga too.

Most overlanders do not take out fully comp for these types of trips.
Thanks for your suggestions.

I Called LV but unfortunately theycan't even give me a quote unless I already have an existing motor insurance policy with them.
Saga only does a Green Card extension to existing policies too, which is 3rd party cover only.

Hence I'll need to risk it and get 3rd party Green Card only when I arrive in Morocco.

There is a great route that is part of the old Paris/Dakar rally route it goes from Boudenib to Merzouga. You can do in a day or camp enroute. There’s a great auberg in Boudenib where you can camp and get great food. Chez François Rekkam Boudnib
