Increased Fuel Tank

Has anyone installed an additional fuel tank on their Grenadier? I’m based in Cape Town, South Africa and was looking for recommendations on who to talk to regarding upsizing my fuel tank.
Hi Dannypalm, in the market for a Grenadier and will definitely be exploring long range tank options once I have my hands on the vehicle. Had ~160litres on old Defender and needed it on several occasions.

If importing two vs one has some cost savings, or if you’ve found a solution in SA, please DM me! Based in JHB.

General question to forum members: any intel on the effect of the muffler removal on the petrol version? Might inform my choice of diesel vs petrol somewhat...

I spoke to my Ineos Grenadier agent in the U.K. yesterday and the technician advised that straight piping the exhaust on the petrol version would have negligible effect on exhaust sound and one of there clients had already done this. I intend to have the rear muffler removed and an auxiliary fuel tank added to my petrol Grenadier once I can source one. 👍🏼

I know I'm necro-threading here. But I'm curious if anybody has tried the Fonka (FK) extended range fuel tank? It looks like a larger (120L) replacement for the OEM tank plus an additional 45L auxiliary tank. Looks like an interesting options since it doesn't require replacing the stock exhaust system to make room for an aux tank in the rear. Install video below.

I tried to order and it would not allow it to proceed. Sent a message to them. 🤷‍♂️. Using the OEM pump and sending unit on the primary tank I figure worst case scenario is the single 120L tank. Fabrication on the tank looks pretty good in the video.

There is another company in China doing the same, but also selling the main 37.7 gallon tank separately. I've been hoping someone brings one of these two options into the US to give a report on. The image shows it with the aux tank, but the site is clearly selling the main tank separately as well.

Looks like external pump to transfer between tanks. Also looks like a separate tank level on the aux tank.

I am being told that the particulate filter is a different size in the US vs European models and the Chinese options were designed for the European design.

Are all the US models the squared off ends like this:

Vs the rounded version like this:

Per the service portal, assuming I am not reading it wrong, these are mufflers or pre mufflers, not cats or part of the emissions system. So it would likely be pretty easy to swap the US center section, GRA-3G24-000790, for the Euro center section, GRA-3G24-000780, assuming it could be sourced from a dealer. Or just cut it out and put in a section of straight pipe.

They are but in the US those are just resonators, the emissions system is before that and the Muffler is at the end. You can simply have the cut out for a regular pipe welded in. However you will get a bit more deep growl from the exhaust.

Both the tanks from FK and Skyline are really appealing. So much better to have the weight in front of the axle and keeping the muffler in place is a better solution as well.
I have the LRA and like the location bc it is tucked up under another skid plate. How many scraps I have under the truck not sure if I'd want this design honestly. For the added weight about 133lbs I don't really notice it in the rear when full. I think like everything we add it just needs to be deducted to the overall weight when loading it up anyway. So for me weight location is just preference.

Having the weight behind the axle is by no means a deal breaker. The trade off is weight distribution verses better damage protection from rock strikes and the like.

Hi Danny, you can speak to me. We have installed a 102 liter aux diesel tank at Charles from C&A Products in Saxenburg. We have removed the muffler box and have used the space for the tank. There is nothing installed in the muffler box

Have tested the sound before and after the removal of the box and have found no difference in sound.
Francois. Interesting! Wondering if there will be available in Australia?

@CRANO I think these guys are in South Africa. They have the Euro 4 Grenadier so don't have the AdBlue tanks installed above the muffler space. That might explain the 102 litre aux tank versus the 68 litre BD and LRA tanks.
