Hello all, not an owner yet, but been following the saga of the vehicle since it was first mentioned. Ive been reading and watching everything about it and learning as much as possible. currently watching the used market hoping to score a deal on one. I live in the eastern part of Georgia near the South Carolina border by Clarks hill lake. not far from Augusta / Athens etc- I've always wanted a defender, but when I drove one in Europe I felt it was cramped ( maybe it was just because it was RHD) I see the grenadier as fulfilling that old school defender vibe, , but in a slightly more modern vehicle with a warranty . im hoping to find a Trial Master with heated seats, tow hitch and maybe the safarii windows. looking at a used Sela green one right now in the atlanta area. but its missing the RAI and the storage bag for the safarii windows ( wierd but not a show stopper) . anyway, figure if im gonna be a lurker and ask questions I should at least make an intro post-

Think about whether you REALLY want the RAI. It’s not for wading depth - it’s really only relevant if you’re in really dusty conditions, dunes, caravans on dusty roads - so kind of irrelevant in the US anywhere east of the Mississippi. Plus there is extra wind noise. If I were in Utah or Arizona - sure - makes total sense. I’ve seen plenty of abandoned builds on my dealers’s lot with a winch and RAI but no lockers. Clearly from people after “a certain look.” If you’re planning a lot of time in Moab then go for it - otherwise it seems like more of a liability than a benefit.

I have lived and wheeled "out west" for many years and have NEVER had the need for a RAI (Raised Air Intake). From long runs in the desert in NM to several MOAB trips...fire roads in summer in Colorado and tons of dust. Now if the Grenny's RAI was a SNORKEL then I would be mildly interested in it.

We got a Fieldmaster (they rule by the way....LOL) with everything we wanted on it! Tow package, Safari windows, lockers, high load electrical....etc. Found no need for the dual battery and the heated seats and leather. Fortunately it was on the lot from someone who canceled their order.

We have the storage bag with ours but to be honest, we have never taken the windows out unless we are showing it to someone who is curious. We do lift them ALL the friggin time though! The Safari Windows were a MUST for us!

I hope you find what you are looking for soon! Best of luck and welcome to the forum!

I agree w @ColoradoMike - for the RAI, really think more in terms of major dune wheeling or caravans where you’re #15. Other than that, I think a lot of people are going for a look - but I didn’t want the extra wind noise for something that wouldn’t functionally benefit me. I had mine built to spec in ‘23, and deliberately chose NOT to get the RAI, just because it wasn’t a snorkel and I’m usually in mud or snow, not sand dunes. And I don’t like people, so damned if I’m going in a caravan with anyone.
