YES, took a while to collect all material, but now I am the happy owner of (EU legal) rubber checkered fender plates !

These are made from 3mm EPDM rubber, suitable for outdoor and UV resistant.

I used 3M VHB tape primer before applying the 5952 double sided adhesive tape for a better bonding and it seems to work.
Anyway I have more material for an extra pair of fender plates if necessary.
They look really good and certainly are as good as those (illegal) Alu plates.
:)

I'da rounded the tips. That point is a waiting for something to catch it, and its weak point for the adhesive making it easy to pull back.

Interesting, thanks Martin, I did not know the metal plates were illegal in BE. Where did you get the info?
Thanks
Laurent
Hi Laurent, I believe this is an EU-rule, but anyways I am not very keen in creating a horizontal guillotine in case one gets loose (during an accident for example) :)

At the moment it still fits, if not, I have ample material to make a new one. :) But somehow, I find the straight edges more pleasing, rounded one would look a bit off, no?

Hello Dalentino, it is 3mm EPDM rubber, suitable for outdoor and UV resistant :
Black Diamond Checker Plate Matting – Item Code: RC04188-3MM-1.5M.
Sourced them from the UK (RubberSmart) , they were kind enough to just send 1m and not the entire roll :).

I need to check. Mines hold in place with 8 metal rivets each, it should hold even in case of collision, it’s not like we can drive these very fast anyway!

Hi Martin, looks great! Would you be willing to sell the remainder of the rubber, if its still sufficient for a another pair of fenders?

hallo Gtzdckhs !

I still have enough for 1 more pair but prefer to keep it as reserve, sorry.... So far it held perfectly these 100 days, but no winter weather yet.
You can contact the company directly, as stated, they were quite helpful in only providing part of the roll. In fact, the biggest cost was shipping, due to size and weight.

Hi,
I actually bought and cut the rubber checker plates a few days ago.
However, I haven't been able to install them because I'm worried
that the 3M VHB double-sided tape might affect the paint finish over time.

Hmm... I guess I should round off the ends too.

The solvent in the glue will not affect the paint
However, as you drive small particles of dust will get between the sticky pad and bodywork. The very slight movement will gradually abrade the paint surface. That would polish out if needs be.

If You work at the engine bay and You are used to put tools like a hammer, plairs and what ever on the top of the fender, will affect the finish of the paint more than the checker plate. Besides the paint finish You will get dents and serios scratches without the checker plate.
I used 3M tape and drilled a couple of holes in the fender to screw the plate down. I'm afraid the holes affected the paint finish too. :ROFLMAO:

If You owned several Landrover Defender before the Ineos, You probable do not care very much about the paint finish...
