I'm a big EV fan. I appreciate that they aren't for everyone (and have written about that here), but the driving and maintenance experiences are fantastic for me. I owned a Tesla Model 3, currently own an EV John Deer tractor, and this month traded an F-150 Lightning in on a new Grenadier. I miss the EV drivetrain, but the Grenadier is a pretty magical design for me, plus a lot smaller than the truck was which I enjoy.
The unveiling of the Fusilier left me disappointed. I understand Ineos' initial thinking around the Fusilier design and size: for an EV SUV to be attractive from a range perspective, they need to lighten it up and improve aerodynamics. In doing so, they removed all of the charm for me.
If Ineos were to build an electrified Grenadier which preserves the current size and design, with > 250 miles of range to a charge, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. If even if it were slightly more aerodynamic, I'd be OK with is. To be a "true Grenadier" for me, it would need the same fantastic build quality that I'm experiencing in my current field master, and the rugged design that I love.
I'm hoping that the current pause in the Fusilier program gives Ineos a chance to rethink their strategy. It's certainly possible that electrification is off the table, but if they do proceed... a 250 mile Grenadier E would be great. Mercedes seems to have pulled it off pretty well with the G 580, but that remains in the obscene G-class price range.
Any other hopes/wishes for an GrEVadier?
