Was driving down a pass and I saw in the area where the miles and mileage usually was brief message. Finally, it stayed long enough for me to read it “ESS Error” Engine start/stop. I read up on it and it is often battery related. I checked my battery and it was 95% and 75F, so no real distress.

I wonder if it was because I was doing a fair amount of engine braking?
I also have a ESS button hold down lever. Past few weeks It has ‘disengaged’ a few times.

Car ran fine. Like I said the message at first showed up for a couple of seconds, hard to read. Finally it stayed on for about a minute. I think I had the ESS off at that time.

Besides the message in the central unit, it never gave me any idiot lights.

Thoughts?

Could have been the ESS button did disengage and maybe reengaged quickly like a flutter? Maybe test it without the hold down for a while.... I've had mine on for months now no issues at all.
