Intro

• Winston - There Can Be Only One (The I don't want to maintain more than one vehicle build) - Need for DD, Hobby Farm (cattle, chickens, goats), Overlanding/Exploring the US, Revisiting Jeep Trails we have already done with my Brother and a good friend, so (next 18 months probably buying a small RV).
• Work is from home so sometimes days, (9-10) go by without driving. Don't need more vehicles to maintain.

  , within a week someone offered me 2 x the purchase price... so I bought some acreage for our:
  
  and decided to upgrade Scratch (our jeep):

  . So paralyzed with indecision, my wife and I visited some friend on Long Island where I saw this:
  
  which I almost bought but he didn't trust it being driven back to MO. So I started thinking again about one vehicle to take us where we wanted to go, do the work we wanted to do and maybe I could find something like this:
  
  and restore it. One late night on youtube I found this:
  
  and I knew I needed a Grenadier. Believe it or not this is a longer story but you're already asleep at the wheel. Thanks for reading.

Where is Winston Now???

(I was working on this post for a little while in different forms as he had been at sea for 3-4 weeks)

  • In my dreams this is our only trip so far. We enjoyed the dessert, the highlands, and the snow. Sorry In my dream I was getting something out of the back, the second I was getting a drink for the doggo, and in the third Ruby (my caviler king charles) wanted a snack I'm hidden there as well...

Plans for this build thread

• This is my master build thread. I plan for each update to be reflected here on these first posts. That will allow anyone to comment and ask question without making the build messy for those that want to see the build and progress. Each update will have a reply post in the thread but I will also add it here.

Inspiration

• Before I discovered the Grenadier I was looking to find a classic LR 110 that was already restored or partially restored and finish a build...so...

Can get the rear view mirror installed later. Will seamlessly integrate if it comes out.

Problems to research/solve

• Vehicle will remain mostly stationary 9-10 in a row every month. Trickle charger (noco genius 5). Don't want to have my hood open (no windows or doors open, my daughter's cat would love to help ruin the interior). Current plan read the forum as it has a few thread on charging. Apparently the 2026 now don't come with the aux battery and so I can't hook to that and we are not suppose to hook to the main terminal posts (causes some problem with the battery indicator on the dash). Looked up nato plug option (nato to anderson is more expensive than having an anderson directly installed) - plan right now is to have an anderson installed (recessed) in the bumper so I don't peel it off on rocks underneath and have a waterproof flap/cap when not in use. Then anderson to noco adapter (found it yesterday need to locate again). Continue to search options. Would perfer charging from the rear bumper if possible. less likely to drive off with it still plugged in (2x with the jeep. Had a maintainer installed with a small outlet in the front bumper and drove away with it still connected. Now have the hood up and would like to avoid that with Winston.

• Starlink adapter/research after we get winston home, will need to add all the grenadier works stuff you bought, electrical fuse/batter charger/multimeter stuff, air/up air/down equipment, recover gear, camping gear/ clothing, stereo components (will test music and audiobooks on the way home), dog stuff setup and things to carry what has changed from the Jeep. Test the cargo drawer after adding stuff measure available space and look at OGG for appropriate bags to make identify easy when on the road. add links to build guides for things i plan to install. add links to the grenadier manual, the unofficial manual here on the site.
