BFG KO2 - A Great Tire

Been running on General Grabber AT3 for last 2 years mainly on road in all weathers including towing. Can't fault them and quiet even on and at motorway speeds.

We live at around 8,500 feet in elevation (2,590 meters), and drive in snow and ice all winter, and winters are pretty long. Everyone in our community runs two sets of tires (winter & summer).

I am running studded Hakka LT3s on my Tacoma (picture below), and we run non-studded Hakka LT3s on my wife's 4-Runner. Before that we ran Hakka LT2s on both trucks.

I've also run the Hakka 7 on an Audi RS4, and the Hakka 8 on an Audi S4. You can get better performance winter tires - meaning tires that drive at high speed better than the Nokian, but they are not as good in the snow & ice. So its up to the individual to prioritize what they want in a tire.

Nokian tires have been the best winter tires for us by a large margin. I ran Cooper Arctic Claws on some older trucks and thought they were pretty good, but Nokian are better.

There are some other good winter tires, but none that handle snow and ice and also stand up to dirt and gravel roads as well. If you really need a true snow tire, you can't go wrong with Nokian.

Blizzaks are a popular winter tire, but in our experience, they are great for the first season, but the soft sticky rubber that provides good traction on ice - seems to wear out fast, and then the tires sort of suck.

I’ve found over the years different tyres seem to suit particular vehicles. Bridgestone A/T have given great service on Toyota Hi-lux and Isuzu D-Max. I originally had Michelin A/T’s on my old Defender but found they were rough riding and sidewalls staked. Then went to Pirelli Scorpion A/T’s which were smooth, steered well and lasted 100,000 km on and off-road use. Changed to Yokohama Geolanders (when I had a problem finding Pirelli) which would wander on the road and also got punctured. I went back to Pirelli - now on third set - still getting 100,000 out of them and no punctures yet.
I wouldn’t bag Bridgestone or Yokohama - in fact we only use Yokohama’s exclusively on my wife’s Subaru and they are fantastic. Until you try a tyre on a vehicle, I think it’s hard to judge.

I have almost 15000 km with the KO2 tires. I am certainly not a tire specialist. But here my review:

1. They feel quite OK, even on the highway/motorway in heavy rain at 120 km/h
2. I used them a little bit in mud, and no problems
3. Noise is quite OK, not disturbing, even with open window.
4. Didn't use them in sand yet.

Picture one is the spare wheel (0 km), picture two is the front left wheel, 15000 km.
I lost between 1 and 1.5 mm.

fwiw i have two sets of bfg k02. Daily driver on a 2009 mitsi pajero i got 80 000 km out of a set of 5,coulda done more. Another set on my Fortuner again over 80 000 km on a set of 5 .It rains a lot in NZ and i dont slow down too much for corners. Mild 4wd never had grip trouble except if super slippery. I have just put a new set (3rd set)on my fortuner,they are quieter than the old ones .I have no issues with them at all..
