Any tips for removing the front and rear skid plates?

I want to check heat shields more closely and have better access to the tow hooks (to paint). Any tips from anyone that's done this? I hate unpleasant surprises.

I was just underneath mine. The plates don't look too hard to remove. You'll need big torx bits.
