Is there any standardization among the off road community on what size Anderson plug to use?

I ordered a bag of 175s off Amazon and when I got them I was wow.. that is too big. So I sent them back and got the 120s, which seem Ok, I'm just going to be running things like a 1000W inverter, dual head air compressor, phased plasma rifle in the 40w range... usual stuff. I will do a termination in front and back of the vehicle and might make up a jumper cable. I do see some of the hive mind going with the 50 but I have inadequacy issues and think 120 is better, like '70' better.

Thoughts? Talk among yourselves, I'll be back after I get a cup of coffee.

I used a mini-Anderson on the back ( driver’s side ) for power to a Starlink Mini mount:

I used the following Powerwerx ( exterior ) plug: https://powerwerx.com/panelpole-panel-mount-powerpole-black-single

Depends on what you’re powering. The grey plug is a 50 amp connector rated for 600w and generally in South Africa used for battery boxes, solar panels etc. Dual compressors that draws around 80 amps or 1000w appliances would need larger plugs.

Anderson plug choice for your application in the 40w range is dependent on how cables are terminated...😎

The most frequently used Anderson plugs are the 50 amp plugs. Very, very, very common in Australia.

The 175 amp plugs are rare and used to power big caravans. They are becoming more common, but for niche uses. Some battery boxes also have one 175 amp plug for high drain devices or jump starting the car.

Bigger Anderson plugs also mean bigger cables and cost. Limit the use of 175 amp plugs to where you REALLY need them. Otherwise use genuine 50 amp Anderson plugs, not "Anderson style" plugs (see below).
