An interesting history which hopefully doesn’t draw too many parallels.

To clarify:
Land Rover introduced the 110 on coil springs in 1983 and 90’s came along a year is so later. The Defender name was not adopted until around 1990 but over time the earlier coil sprung numbered models came to be casually known as Defenders.
Leaf sprung Series were phased out around 84/85.
 
Can't believe it but I saw one too in my home town of Tarporley, earlier today.
Perhaps they are making a comeback. :-)
