I tried to buy a second hand one in Ecuador in 1987 when I lived there for 3,5 years, but they were or too expensive or in too bad shape; I finally bought a brand new Suzuki Samurai: very good purchase, but small!

Same dream car (again) but from https://www.fj.co/

I believe I mentioned here before, I actually grew up with FJ40s/FJ60s in the 70s in Papua New Guinea where there were only Toyotas, Suzukis and some Series.
My late father had a shop with a lot of 40s/60s where he fixes/builds/sells them. I hated dismantling them after school as they were so dirty and the smell of diesel.

Now I wish I could go back to that time and soak in all the knowledge he had on these vehicles.

They were called Monteros in the states. I was always partial to the boxy ones from the late 80s and then two generations later in early 2000s.

Fun fact - there were CAMEL TROPHY versions! Check THIS out.

My first 4x4 that I purchased myself was a Mitsubishi Shogun (As named in UK). It was a SWB in Diesel and came in Atlantic Blue. Loved it. Now looks tiny next to modern stock.
Not many left in UK, mainly due to rust which could get ferocious on early versions.
