Windshield replacement, I have a large crack and need windshield replaced on the US- Pennsylvania. Does anyone one know if you have to have it done at the dealer or can this be done at a windshield place? Not sure windshield place has a replacement windshield . Any have theirs replaced ?

Just went through this. Ended up going through dealer (Freehold NJ) because third parties need to get WS and associated trim directly from the dealer anyway. Plus dealers need to calibrate the cameras so why leave it to someone else.

Out of pocket was $3k 😳 I know. I’ll be reimbursed from my insurance so that wasn’t a real concern. Just a few days later I had xpel film applied as another insurance policy. Dealer wanted 995 for that but I got a local detailer to complete for half that.

Thank you for the response .I t makes sense to have the dealer complete this .

Mine was around $2600, insurance covered most of it.

@Krabby - how do you like the expel film? I had one on my windshield and it still cracked without an aparent rock hit. I didn’t like it at all, looked terrible in less than 3000 miles, and it was hard to clean.
Now I only have the bare windshield and the rubber gasket that Owl recommended. I tried a diy Windshield Defense but I couldn’t install it properly, there was a bubble on the bottom edge that would not give up.

Your avatar says you’re in P Burg - I’m guessing the Ohio dealer is closer than RDS (west of Philly)?

So far it’s fine. Can’t even tell it’s there TBH, but it has only been a week. I installed new Bosch blades and all was normal when it was raining yesterday. The detailer did apply a coating of some sort and gave me a spray bottle of “booster” to apply every few weeks.
