Hello,

So I checked the torque on the wheel nuts delivered from dealer and I was surprised to see it’s such a high value. I used a Stahlwille torque (40Nm-200Nm, +/-4%) and all the wheel nuts seem to be bolted down at 155Nm of torque. Does that seem high or am I just seeing things that aren’t there?

I have the 18” steelies with BFG KO2’s

Thanks Steven! So I guess when they mounted the wheels in the factory they didn’t torque it to the right value. Maybe other owners can check their values.

Anyway, I’ll set them correct later today

Changed wheels yesterday. Had them torqued to 160nm as per manual. Got home and re-torqued back up to 160nm. would say 70pct needed re-nipping up. 160nm felt like plenty to me. Steel 17's

So why not go up to 180Nm as recommended?

says 160nm in my book - and yes the image looks like an alloy. by feel 160nm seems like plenty to me. check them regularly.

I find the steel wheel tightening torque quite high. For M14 8.8 bolts it is usually around 105 Nm, and for higher strenght classes I quickly found only 165 Nm as highest.

Also my experience on Land Rovers is that alloys need higher torque than steel wheels. For example Defender with M16 x 1,5 thread or Range Rover P38/Discovery 2 with M14 x 1,25 thread we have used 125 Nm for steels and 140 Nm for alloys. With those figures zero thread failures or loosened nuts. Of course M16 would take easily even higher torques.

AOR use 17x8" steel wheels / M14 nuts on their offroad trailer wheels; torque figures are pretty high too.

M14 , 1.25mm thread

M14 , 1.5mm thread according to all the other postings I have read, and I hope is correct as that is what I have sitting at home with my aftermarket Black Rhino Yellowstone 17" x 8" 84.1 mm bore 38 p mat black rims, I just need the Grenadier I am passionately waiting for, so that I can test if the M14, 1.5mm thread is correct.

But can someone address the thread issue, 1.5mm or 1.25mm ?.
Where is DCPU when you need him, one of the most if not the most useful person on this forum.
I'm in NZ otherwise I'd pull a nut off and measure it for you.
And no funny comments , chaps 🙂

Good onya Tazzie, searching out opportunities for a future move no doubt 😉
Way better trout fishing here than your neck of the woods as an example 😁
