chin up, sad as yet another season ends, tis always the grey grouse to rouse us back out. well until labour cock that up for us.Less than a fortnight left in the UK for pheasant and partridge. Rather sad clearing out the back of the car on Saturday.
Beautiful dog! Is that a Boykin, aka swamp poodle?Took Sable out for a little quail hunt the other day. Didn’t move any birds but sure enjoyed being out with my little brown dog and my blue truck. Just love this dog and this truck.
Never mind- I missed your comment that Sable is an English Cocker SpanielBeautiful dog! Is that a Boykin, aka swamp poodle?
Love the photos. Sable looks identical to my cocker. The bleached ears against the brown coat always remind me of Tina Turners hair. Ridiculous but it does. I assume 32 gauge are rare in the US - never heard of one in the UK.Here’s an update with some photos of my first preserve hunt with my English Cocker Sable with my friends and my guns including 28 ga. Fair and Browning Over Unders and then my Purdey 16 ga and his brand new Rizzini 32 ga.
My Truck Vault slide out table sure makes for a great tail gate for hunting photos.

Not wishing to be political but hopefully The Donald will keep our esteemed government so busy on other things and they won't have time to get round to banning shooing whether for pleasure or pest control - much as we all know they would like to. If they can ban trail hunting they will probably try and ban clay pigeons as well. People might miss and accidentally hit a pigeon.
Oh I love the comparison to Tina Turners hair. That’s hilarious. Yes the 32 ga is quite rare here in the US. I never heard of them until my friend here got into it. It’s a half oz of shot. He’s had a couple of them but this is his first side by side custom gun with a set of .410 barrels.Love the photos. Sable looks identical to my cocker. Simply the Best - Better than all the rest - very true of good Cockers. Thank You for enlightening me on 32ga - shows a degree of confidence to go shooting with such a small bore - I am not that braveOh I love the comparison to Tina Turners hair. That’s hilarious. Yeah the 32 ga performance on shooting game was not all that impressive compared to the 28 gaSimply the Best - Better than all the rest - very true of good Cockers. Thank You for enlightening me on 32ga - shows a degree of confidence to go shooting with such a small bore - I am not that brave
Probably not what you are looking for but in the photo of mine above on string 342 I have a simple raised wooden shelf with offset legs that is about 6 inches above the floor of the boot / trunk. It allows me to fit a pair of shotguns in there on the diagonal without breaking them down - which I think I would have to do with any drawer systems that I have seen. Stops the stocks getting broken if a large retriever jumps into the back.Anyone have solutions for mounting a few rifles to the back of the station wagon? Not looking for draw system was thinking maybe a molle panel system??
Yeah I was looking at that, I need to have as much room in the rear as I can for gear. I thought about the Bison top shelf and maybe attaching rifles to the bottom??Probably not what you are looking for but in the photo of mine above on string 342 I have a simple raised wooden shelf with offset legs that is about 6 inches above the floor of the boot / trunk. I realise that with scopes you might want a bit more protection on a rifle but the system works for me. The quality of my woodwork would not endear me to Thomas Chippendale but it is only made from offcuts of plywood and 4 X 2 using the trunk base liner as a template and masking my poor woodwork with some old carpet offcuts stapled to the top of it so it cost nothing to make bar an hour of my labour
That should work - I used the trunk sole as it meant that the guns were out of sight with the doors shut - If you aren't fussed about gun visibility it should be fairly easy to mount the guns on the forward side of the cargo barrier above the rear seats if you have one fitted - unless you routinely carry guns and more than one passenger in which case they might resent it above their headYeah I was looking at that, I need to have as much room in the rear as I can for gear. Yeah it would be 4 of us heading to a hunt.... Trying to get creative, the Bison shelf has very low weight not enough for 4 rifles so thats out.... dang. That should work - I used the trunk sole as it meant that the guns were out of sight with the doors shut - If you aren't fussed about gun visibility it should be fairly easy to mount the guns on the forward side of the cargo barrier above the rear seats if you have one fitted - unless you routinely carry guns and more than one passenger in which case they might resent it above their head
