Obama-era greenhouse gas rules gone as EPA’s Zeldin signs ‘single largest deregulatory action’ in history

EPA administrator eliminates regulation that forced annoying start-stop car feature on drivers nationwide

"As I traveled across all 50 states this past year, I heard from countless Americans who not only dislike the (motor-vehicle) start-stop feature but passionately advocated for this mechanism to be a thing of the past," Zeldin said of the major recission made Thursday.
"Not only do many people find start-stop annoying, but it kills the battery of your car without any significant benefit to the environment. The Trump EPA is proudly fixing this stupid feature at Trump Speed."

Zeldin said automakers shouldn’t be forced to adopt or be rewarded for using technologies that represent a "climate participation trophy" with no meaningful reduction in actual pollution.

Manufacturers might eventually leave the feature out of future model years. But by that time the rule will be reversed and be a part of some new regulation.

Stopping the annoying button is child's play.
If you can remember to wipe your arse you can remember to press the flush!

Who knows?: In view of the above, what are the chances of Euro 6 compliant diesel Grenadiers appearing in US showrooms??

I'd say little to none. BMW pulled all diesel engines from the NA market even before IA came on board (pre covid actually).

The simple fix is a switch that stays off or stays on, I can't figure out why auto makers or an aftermarket company doesn't produce one.

When I travel to metro areas with bad traffic I am sure it's helping on the mileage and I appreciate it. In fact, under those conditions I wish it wouldn't kick back on as fast as it does. Most of the time I am not in stop and go and its just not that annoying..

ZERO!

The only plus a modern diesel could offer is range, and by range I mean carrying fewer Jerry cans. We don’t have a Canning Stock Route and the modern diesel emissions BS has pretty much killed them for practical off-road use.

You WANT a car with stop start. I personally love it. Not because of the start/stop, I permanently disable it in every vehicle I've ever had with it. You want it because part of the incessant start/stopping is buffing all the components to deal with it... You're getting more robust electrical, starter, all the accessories have heavier duty bearings/design... If you disable it you're essentially left with accessory runs/starter that almost never goes bad. If the car isn't equipped with it, zero chance they continue down that path of overbuilding all those components.

I’ve never thought of it that way. Interesting 👍

Yup... I've never had any of that stuff go bad or make any noise when equipped with start stop and we keep our cars and run up the mileage in a salt rich/winter type environment. Prior to start stop it was always something, a water pump, some pulley, a tensioner... the starter before 100,000 miles. First thing I do when we get a new car is disable that permanently, in the case of the grenadier I 3d printed a little tab and jammed it into the recess of the button. If we could get some diagnostics I'd code it out!

And as noted by Brads1, any wear is an easily solved engineering function, which has led to more robust parts.

So basically it was never a mandate in the first place, just a credit that manufacturer's took advantage of because it actually worked. My f150 works great with it, the mileage was noticed. The gren on the other hand is so quick to cut that I've had it do so before the car stopped at a stop sign, and it defeats the purpose. If it could be adjusted to the 7 second avg, I wouldn't have an issue. But, if your brain works in "TrumpSpeed" and you're too dumb to comprehend global warming, or even out of pocket $$, you'll think this is a great outcome.

The Grenadier Works Medallion Mount start/stop cover works great for me, I already forgot I had this feature. If start/stop didn't have to be reset to off every time I got into vehicle I would not mind it. So instead I just deleted it. Thanks Grenadier Works!

Brad's think alike. 3D printed tab....
