I am asking this for my brother. He has been having an issue with his Fieldmaster’s steering becoming almost “locked” while making turns at highway speed on certain roads and bends.

He says it feels as if the power steering has failed. He has to “muscle” his words to steer the wagon. He says that it only happens on certain roads and on certain bends.

He took his FM to a local dealership and could not replicate it. Of course.

Talking with him an hour ago, it happened twice while I was speaking with him.

He also says that if at a stop. If he turns the wheels full lock. The steering tries to re-center? Some sort of resistance.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

My brother ran an OBD scan and the only fault code that showed was/is P0461. Fuel level sensor issue that he has had since delivery.

He said that the steering issue happens on the same stretches of road in certain locations.

His Fieldmaster is completely stock. No mods, except for Owl sidesteps. Factory 18” alloy wheels with BFG KO2 tires.

Are you saying it doesn't happen anywhere else? If that is the case get out and check the road by eye for imperfections/ruts. It is common where I live for the vehicle to tram-line on one section of road I use. It is on a bend, the road in question is a logging road with 44T logging wagons every few minutes. They move the tarmac into grooves that are difficult to see at speed before the tram- line gets hold of the steering.

You should never try to turn the wheels on a hard surface while stopped.
High sidewall tyres will twist to some degree instead of turning and then twist back when you let the wheel go.
Worse if they are aired down a bit.
It isn't good for your tyres, wheel alignment or power steering.
That may be part of the problem.
