FYI our windshields take bird hits the same as rocks. I hit one of these guys going 80 on the interstate today directly into the windshield. Ordering windshield #4 tomorrow at 21,000 miles and 17 months of ownership. I don’t think I can fault Ineos for this one though.

That's impressive. Do they normally fly that fast?

Sometimes it sucks living at the edge of a county and all the money goes closer to Philly to repair roads. They like to "Oil and Chip" roads around here and don't steamroll them flat. They let the cars do that and this year they did virtually every state owned road around me. Finally got bit this morning. Appointment at Safelite on Thursday to have it repaired - I hope.

Just passing along info I recently learned. If you get a chip, park your it as soon as possible. Call a mobile chip repair guy, have him come to you as soon as possible and repair it before it spreads. This one looks repairable, hopefully you can get it repaired before it spreads (my last crack was spreading even when parked).

Unfortunately I’m driving it out your way to take my daughter to a lacrosse clinic and colllege tours. Goes in Thursday when I get back.

I've seen DIY kits for stone chips in the supermarket. As most UK insurance covers them i can't see it being a big seller over here but might be worth having one for emergencies

I keep a kit with me and last year used it to repair my windscreen whilst in Germany. On my return I tried to get a professional repair and they couldn’t do it due to my diy fix. Still handy to keep a repair kit for remote travel as will stop the chip spreading and forming a crack.

A bit of skill can make all the difference with DIY kits.
Todd from Project Farm tested a bunch of kits a couple of years ago.
A $300+ kit did the best but useful results can be achieved with a sub $20 kit.
Testing was done by a pro windscreen repair guy to standardise the application.
Permatex and Rain-X did ok.

I did assume a professional repair would not be possible which is what would put me off using but, as like yourself someone was very remote it would make more sense to have and use of needed

Once you have put the glue in there for your repair the professional can’t then get that glue out to do their fix. My fix is s till holding up but you can see the damage. The windscreen guy told me you have to do the fix as soon as possible after the damage is done. Any dirt in there that can’t be removed makes the repair more difficult and the results not as clear as you would like.
