Due to the natural gas crisis in Europe, there is currently developing a shortage of AdBlue. This may perhaps not stay a specific German Problem.

I have yesterday bought 40 liters. You never know.

An article from my business magazine. Since it is in German and behind a paywall, I translated it with Google and created a PDF.

Shelf life is 18-36 months depending on storage conditions (and source of information). My storage conditions are in any case perfect at 15°C in our storage room.

With a share of 2,3% AdBlue in the fuel, 40 Liters is enough for just 15800 Km if the grenadier burns 11L/100 Km. About an 18 month distance not including holiday trips.

So what could I share?

My Daf LF requires AdBlu. I fill it up once a year at my mates yard for free, as he buys it by the IBC. What my 7.5 ton Lorry uses in a year, his Challenger and Fendt 942 use in a few days.

I wont be losing sleep about any shortage

It's good to have a reliable source. But as stated in the article, there are concerns that even transport companies might run into problems. And I
suspect they have serious AdBlue supplies on their own.

The BMW Diesel will deny to start without AdBlue. Maybe this will be the first Grenadier hack to appear on the web.

As we found out in the pandemic, there's definitely one way to cause a shortage...

Where did you buy your AdBlue? From a wholesaler or a supermarket around the corner?

Amazon.

I normally avoid Amazon buys. But I decided to buy this when I was already lying in my bed. So it was an easy buy with the tablet. May be there are cheaper offers, but I wanted it done.

Be careful with "tricky" offers: AdBlue 17 Euro, transport 12 Euro - per unit ...

Mine was free shipping.

There is more than one. And even though shortage can as well be caused by stock buys, this case seems a bit different to me: if transport companies are warning, there actually is already a shortage due to broken down production.

Apart from that: I don't want to spend 80k Euros on a car and then can not use it due to some missing chemicals I could have bought in time. 🙃

I bought some five litre canisters three weeks ago because of the problem bemax explained.
These are more practical to use with my car with an AdBlue tank in within the trunk.
If you spill some of the stuff in the car it is not easy to get it out of the carpet.

It is possible to run without ad blue, maybe with a software "update"?
It is possible for sure. But you loose the registration. At least here in Germany

Afaik, yes. But likely not by official measures, i.e. not by BMW dealers.

We have started making it in Australia now after the recent shortage. We are now self sufficient
