South Cheshire, in the North West of England. The city of Chester is only 12 miles away and is famous for its Roman remains including its amphitheater. Also much from the Tudor period. Chester is a popular tourist spot. The town of Nantwich is even closer, and again dripping in history. My local village of Bunbury has a large church that goes back 600 years. Bunbury is also the home of one of the very senior Ineos directors. As forum member CRH mentioned, Ineos started in this part of the world.
My nearest neighbours are nearly half a mile away. As a result, we look over fields in all directions. From the back of the house we can see two castles. The ruins of Beeston Castle and Peckforton Castle which these days is a wedding venue and a Land Rover experience centre.
The weather is typically mild and at times, wet.
I work away from home for six months of the year, mainly in the British North Sea but also, other parts of the world. I feel very privileged to live in the UK. It is packed with scenery, history, good places to eat, lovely pubs (sadly dwindling), and a myriad of other qualities. Like anywhere else, there are negative aspects, but nothing that makes me yearn to leave. I love that within an hour or so we can reach so many places. The cities of Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham are all within an hour. Within similar reach, to the west we have the Welsh mountains of Snowdonia, or the beautiful beaches of Wales and the Wirral. To the North, the Lake District, to the east, the Peak District and to the south, the rolling hills of Shropshire.
Looking at the descriptions of where other forum members reside, it seems the world still contains a lot of beautiful places.
