I think that is the point of using the UHBMW. It protects the aluminum by having give leaving less stress on the mount points. I've seen it used everywhere in the off-roading that I've been researching, it seems to be the go too for peeps who want to replace the cheaper material rather than the hard material. It's also slick to git so I assume that would also provide some sort of benefit while off-roading? I for one will be getting the OWL just because it offers it "IF" it doesn't detract too much from clearances.

I do wonder to your point if it breaks off is there other supporting to keep the aluminum backing tight or not? My neighbor has a solution like this on his RZR but it has a way for him to swap the UHMW and keep the strength on as well. I think its because Aluminum tears and steel scraps, so with UHMW it is like giving Aluminum ability to slide and gouge with out the tear keeping weight down. ???
