Official statement on US EU tariff deal

"Liberation Day''. What pretentious gumph!
Wiki re Liberation days : It commemorates the end of an occupation or the fall of a regime or the liberation from both a foreign occupation and a collaborationist regime .

I called sarah and asked her for a statement on what the phrase "pre liberation day baseline" means. It's a VM. I wonder if I'll get a call back.

What is a VM?
Virtual machine is what google says.

Voice Mail. Shockingly, she didn’t answer a strange foreign number.
Ah, so

Don't be too happy, yet. These announced tariffs are nothing more than announcements. Nothing is written or signed, yet.

In addition there are contrary announcements from both parties already.

Last but not least there is a very complex ratification process within the EU which has to be passed. Just Mrs. von der Leyen sitting there shaking hands is not even half the deal.

One announcement for example was that the EU should import gas worth $750 bio. over three years. Nice. The maximum export value of gas from the US is worth $116 bio. Is $750 bio. a realistic value? Do not forget, that the import of gas is done by private companies, not by states/countries. If that will happen, private companies have to have that money.

Regardin Lynn Calders statement...IMHO we're far away from a plannable, stable situation.

She just agreeing to shit knowing it kicks the can down road, agreeing to 30% temporarily so it’s off the table. Trump just wants to say he made a deal. Accuracy, data, or truth, not only don’t mater, but are resented.

Hey @AWo, how has the “deal” been received by the German car and auto parts industry?

Exactly
People seem to read what they want, or in dumbarses case he hears and says what he wants.
The agreement has to be ratified/agreed by the member countries.
There is also a huge list of exemptions that get 0%

I saw a post yesterday where some idiot was bragging how dumbarse has already collected $27 Billion in tariffs and has cleared the national debt.
Misses two important points
  1. US National debt is over $35 Trillion
  2. If true(doubtful) the $27 Billion in tariffs can only be collected/paid by US companies or citizens. Even if those companies are subsidiaries of an overseas company.
    1. The company either takes a hit and makes less profit, risking it's commercial viability, or pays it and passes the extra cost on to the consumer.
The only way a tariff can help is if it increases the cost of cheap imported goods to make the more expensive, locally manufactured equivalent more competitive.

I definitely agree with Trump that the US National debt is a serious situation and needs to be dealt with.
The main reason the countries of the world don't want the US economy, therefore value of $USD to fall, is because the US owes them Trillions of dollars.
If US goes down then th debt bonds will be worth a lot less.

He made a deal with Australia to allow US beef to be imported.
As we have better, cheaper and excess Australian beef nobody is ever going to import any more US beef so...........................

Of more concern is that Australia's agricultural minister didn't consult with the biosecurity scientific panel.
As a Tasmanian , she should have acted in a less autocratic way.
One man's meat is another man's poison.
Power corrupts!
And whatever other saying you can drag out! Wala!
