Does any of you know if a standard navigator (Naviextras, Sygic, etc) can be downloaded on the Grenadier hardware?

No don’t think so. All nav is Carplay, Android Auto based

So would that mean that you lose all navigation when out of cell range to drive google maps etc...?
You get GPS coordinates and waypoints but no actual maps unless you are using an additional iPad or similar with downloaded maps

Compass and pace cord alone in the Gascoyne in ‘89, would’ve traded my dignity for that.
Trying to find a buried cache in a time before GPS was no small thing.
I've still got my beads somewhere.

To be honest it wasn't that brilliant a bit of kit. Slow to boot up, ate batteries and quite a degree of error.

1991 ish I think was difficult to get in a single seater as you couldn't see the ASI.
Yes, it was 1991. Your GPS-50 and my GPS-100 were the very first Garmin products. My GPS-100 was offered in marine and aviation versions. I bought it in 1991 during a trip in New Orleans and had to go in a dubious location close to the harbour. Nobody knew the existence of Garmin company... Coming back to Italy, I had a huge delusion. No satellites at all. I went to the top of my very tall building. Nothing. No Internet at that time and expensive transcontinental calls. I call directly Garmin and they told me that DoD had shut off the satellites for some days (they were post Iraqi war times). 31 years ago... wow...
