Hello everybody! I've been researching the Ineos Grenadier as a replacement for my 2000 Nissan Xterra. My Xterra has served me well over the last two decades. She has a 3" lift (leaf pack and long shackles on the back, larger torsion bars and calmini UCAs up front) and a nice ARB bull bar. But she's getting a little long in the tooth (260,000km on the odo). The AC needs a new compressor (I have it, but haven't installed it yet). There's some rust starting to pit through the paint where she's taken rock chips over the years. TLDR; she's a good girl and I'll get sad when it's time to put her out to pasture.

So I'm looking at my options for a new 4x4 rig sometime in the next year or so... Something I love about my Xterra is that she's a simple lady. She has a manual transmission (this is better than any anti-theft device these days... I don't even need to lock the doors, nobody's stealing a stick shift). She has 2x4, 4x4H, and 4x4L. I wish she had locking front / read diffs, but the limited slip rear diff plus the parking break let's me apply biological computer traction control if needed. The problem with a lot of the options on the market now are that they seem to be weighed down with a ton of bloat features. Even the 4Runner only comes in a hybrid for the offroad trim levels and there's no option for a manual transmission unless you wanna buy a tacoma and really get your hands dirty swapping the guts from the taco to the 4runner.

And since I like to own a vehicle for the long haul (20+ years with my Nissan) I'm keen for my text ride to be something that'll stand the test of time. So I'm not that keen on the Bronco or a Jeep for the longevity thing.

So that's how I found my way to the Grenadier. I've been lurking here for a while and figured it was time to make an account. Gotta say, I'm impressed with the choices Ineos made: BMW B58 motor (solid choice). Carrera axels (solid choice). Magna chassis (solid choice). Tremec transfer case (solid choice). ZF transmission (solid choice although I wish they'd offered a manual option). All the underside components seem to the "over designed" in just the right ways. I like the tactile switches (I hate touchscreens in a car). I like that there are so many options for pre-wiring to different places in the truck including high amp wiring for front and rear winch mounts. And I love that even for a low volume production vehicle there's a reasonable aftermarket modding community making stuff like rock sliders and skid plates.

Hello - we're happy you found us. But I have to be honest, my first reaction to that photo was what kind of jerk parks an Xterra like that 🤣 Then I noticed the Lambo and doubled down on my thought ;)

Seriously though, you really have found a great resource for down to Earth discussions about the IA experience - the good, the bad, and the ugly.

That said, the simplicity of a vehicle from 2000 is all but a dream and one that many of us long for and hoped the Grenadier would be. Unfortunately, vehicles like that have been legislated from existence in North America. IA did what they could given the restrictions, but to get vehicles cleared for a global market meant a lot of BS we can't avoid. Moreover, they made some weird decisions with things.

Having said that, I do not see anything in the NA market that comes closer to good ole days. The search function here is useful but kinda crappy, but start there if you're looking for anything specific.
