I seem to remember reading something about a specialist brach of the British army making enquiries about weather all external lights could be turned off for some reason or another.

I assume for covert running. You donât want to be driving round at night in a war zone with the lights on for obvious reasons. All the old military Land Rovers had convoy lights which were basically low powered red lights.
And a light shining softly on the rear diff housing which was painted white so the convoy vehicle behind could see it

Another contender for GSUP, and therefore also perhaps a backwards way of looking at the cross-shopping range.

The Jeep J8, based on the Wrangler JL and a potential UK GSUP contender to replace the Land Rover Defender

Note the winch looks to be demountable.

I read somewhere they would have to change engine 'cause BMW doesn't want to supply army again.
The german Heer an the german army police uses BMW Motorbikes. So i guess they won´t change engines.

There is surely no way any military force would take that seriously?
Preppers probably would.

From the article above:
"The J8, seen here in the Command Vehicle version, was ordered as a replacement for the Italian Army’s ageing Land Rover Defender AR-90 in 2020"

And:

"the militarised J8 has proved popular with Central and South American military markets as well as being in use in quantity with both Egyptian and Taiwanese armed forces."

"US-funded J8 Jeeps, two armoured variants and three command vehicles, have now been supplied to the Croatian MoD for use on peacekeeping operations so at least three European NATO nations are now users."

As far as the Italians are concerned, that's not a benchmark. They use(d) e.g. this vehicle for the motorway police. It Italy, it all depends on the preferences of the boss:

It didn't last long, however:

That's exactly what I meant. No serious military force. That original picture was made to look like something the SAS or a front line unit would use.

As you say it's not a mile away from our own light reconnaissance solution, but in this case in the form of cost effective Made-in-America military aid.

Australian Army soldiers from the Regional Force Surveillance Unit utilise G Wagon Surveillance & Reconnaissance vehicles during a training activity in Alice Springs, on Friday 31st March 2017.
