Is there any way to trick the Grenadier into thinking that the brake pedal has been depressed, albeit not physically?

I haven't looked, but if the Grenadier is setup like most cars there is a switch on the back side of the brake pedal that trips the cruise control, lets the car start and on some cars even does the brake lights.. It would not be hard to mess with that circuit so the car thinks the brake pedal is being pressed when it is not...
