Hi Guys

Just looking at ninetubes parcel shelf and was thinking of getting one made up - however I note that Kaon do one also but search as I can - I cannot find what thickness material it is! Has anyone installed the Kaon one and can advise?

Steve

Is this the shelf you mean by parcel? If so, the caliper measurement is shown. If you need anything else, let me know. I love the upgrade.

ROOF SHELF (INTERIOR REAR)
  1. KAON rear roof shelf here, electrical console for shelf here. Paper Towel Holder to suit KAON Molle Mesh and KAON Rear Roof Shelf, look here;
  2. Bags from KAON for their rear roof shelf here. Unsure whether the bags fit shelves from other makers;
  3. GrenX rear roof shelf here;
  4. Get Good Gear Roof Shelf is here. @Kilchoman has one installed. Shelf made by EURO FLO Expedition Equipment and sold by GGG;
  5. EURO FLO rear roof shelf here;
  6. Offroad-Tec Cargo rack here;
  7. Bison Gear Rear Roof Shelf (based in Poland, sends products worldwide). Installed on AU Spec car here;
  8. LeTech rear roof compartment here (Super premium pricing). Its a compartment rather than a simple shelf; and
  9. APB Trading's rear roof shelf (UK based).
The GrenX shelf has a higher load rating than some others. From here:

Is the material thickness significant for something else you need to do Steve?

The Kaon shelf weighs 10kg and is rated to 10kg. The ninetubes tribute version ;) is 2.5mm sides with a 3mm aluminium tray so it weighs less. It's unrated but I have an easy 10kg on mine and it's doing fine. There are other options. See Doc's list.

I’ve got the mid-shelf from Diabolical Inc. it’s VERY robust. They quote that it can hold 200lbs. I’ve had about 125lbs in it with 4 Plano boxes across it and there is no noticeable flex. I can actually grab the shelf and shake the whole truck. Bonus is that it acts as a passive security barrier if someone tries to take your stuff, they can’t get to the stuff under the shelf.

Thanks really appreciate that - so according to Kaon they are steel and your measurments look to be 3mm if thats the case why the hell are they only rated to 10kg? seems very low..

I like the idea of the addition expecially for towels, kids coats etc..

Not sure how i missed that section - thanks - I certainly got most of them from searching ... but a few I didnt..

Ive actually modelled one up in fusion based on rough dims from ninetubes but threw my own pattern on it... I cant imagine cost wise its going to be cheaper than the grenx (which looks to be the same) or the Kaon..

Not specifically no.. i just thought the weight loading for the Kaon seemed a bit weak (and i know the amount of crap we take with us on holidays) so thought it may have been down at 2mm - and had compared the self built ninetubes one being 3mm albeit ally.. as mentioned i've modelled a variant of the ninetubes design so may get it costed for fun... but i dont think it will work out any cheaper. At least I can mod it to suit though..

Yep certainly looks robust... probably overkill for what I need - as I will use the vehicle for work too i need boot space for loading up extinguishers in bulk. but as they dont do too high I though this was a reasonable option :D

I'd also like to apologise for the tardy replies - for some reason i dont get notifications of replies... no doubt a user issue.. :D

Link to fusion viewer - if anyone has suggestions (Molle is new to me)
