How cold is your A/C?

I'd welcome some advice or input from those with more Grenadier experience please...

I've owned my Grenadier for about 6 weeks now and for most of the time my HVAC system seems to produce chilled air pretty well. For most of the time however the weather has not been hot, although it has been warm. Usually with the external temp around 20 Celsius or less the HVAC produces lovely chilled air (which will produce the condensation feature on the outside of the windscreen). However last week when the vehicle was hot and the external temp around 30 Celsius, the air from the HVAC was perhaps slightly below the external air temp but only imperceptibly so, and the only way to avoid cooking in the case was to have the windows open. This doesn't seem right to me! I am sure that there are people on here who regulalry drive in much higher ambient temperatures and can tell me if their car blows cold air.

It is also noticeable that when producing cold air the A/C condenser (as you would expect) produces drips of condensate on the ground. During the hot spell I didn't see any drips.

My question therefore is whether this is normal and just another quirky feature of the Grenadier or does it suggest a malfunction? If the latter, does anyone have any ideas why it is happening?

The vehicle is of course under warranty but the nearest dealer is a long way away (a familiar story) so an easy local fix would be preferred.

I have incidentally had the "supernova heat only" issue with the HVAC but this is clearly a completely different feature.

Sounds at least it needs re-gassing. I have a air con thermometer 🌡 and was able to check it wasn't getting down to 4° so re- gassing sorted it.
 
I think the forum consensus would agree: get it re-charged and you'll be cool, literally. Mine also lasted about 6-7 weeks, I had it re-charged / re-gassed at an independent service center in August 2024, and it's been blowing cold ever since with no problems.
 
I noticed two weeks ago that the A/C was struggling to keep the Jan 25 built QM. Took to dealer, my Coolant reservoir and high pressure hose were leaking. They fixed it and re-gas and it has been mint. Have them check everything. The hose issue is a common issue with BMW engines. To point that the aftermarket has made metal hoses to address the hose leaking.
 
+1 for having it recharged. That should fix all. Mine had the same issue early on and I had it recharged. No issues since then!
 
For info, this morning driving to work I had a Fluke DMM and temperature probe in the dash vent. External temp (as indicated by the car) 19 Celsius, vent air temp 21 Celsius. It felt cool but clearly wasn't. It made no difference whether it was in auto or manual mode, or fresh or recycle mode, nothing would get it below 21C.

I think I can safely say it isn't working as it should! I'll try to get it regassed and repeat the test.

Frequent issue and there is a TSB on that. Mine does it too and will be fixed at the next dealer visit.

The "auto" setting can sometimes be a bit weak. Both when needing extra heat or extra cooling. Late last year, I did a 600 mile round trip in a day and it was minus 6c for some of it. On Auto, it wasn't generating much heat output. Especailly on the legs. However, when put into manual, it was fine. The same can happen when its very hot.

Try the manual setting to see if that makes a difference.

! spoke to a local aircon specialist today, he's not willing to touch it since the vehicle is under warranty and he's worried about messing up my warranty (fair enough, I'd rather he was cautious than not), so I have made contact with the supplying dealer.

The dealer has been excellent to deal in the past with but is unfortunately a 150 mile round trip for me so not particularly convenient (although I appreciate that many here have much greater distances). We'll see what happens.
 
We had 36-37c last week and I’ve been pleasantly impressed with the a/c on the Grenny. No complaints

The dealer has been excellent to deal in the past with but is unfortunately a 150 mile round trip for me so not particularly convenient (although I appreciate that many here have much greater distances). We'll see what happens.
It will probably be a double visit, as typically, they want the vehicle in to verify a fault, then they contact Ineos to get permission to proceed with the repairs (I have waited 3 months so far for two warranty fixes and I have another to let them know about). Luckily, I am only 25 miles away from the dealer but its still a faff)
