Headspace roof conversion!

The video also says they are working on water tanks, under the IG. 90 litres each side, giving a massive 180 litres in total.

Wow, that is well done. I feel like he is the same guy featured in AWSP Danica video. His Danica is outfitted inside is nice. He should just done the Grenadier.

We thought about waiting for Headspace when we were investigating RTT vendors for the Ineos platform and our primary concern was elimination of the B pillars, a much more limited roof mount system for solar etc. and the increased complexity surrounding any roof mounted switch panel relocation.

This becomes even worse if you’re going through this insanity outside of AUS and the installation firm has a sample size of zero concerning prior installs

TLDR: I definitely don’t regret going with Alu-Cab at this point.

Vaild concerns but in practice I don't think installation of the Headspace conversion will be that much different than the Alucab model. I have pulled down the overhead switch panel from my headliner and there is nothing complicated about the wiring up there. Transferring it to the roof conversion will be dead easy. Solar will simply be a semi flexible panel attached to the slick roof using either VHB or adhesive. I have no need for any other roof mounted accessories. The Alubcab model is great, but the low profile (will fit in my garage), light weight (80 pounds less than Alucab) and available color matching of the Headspace make it my choice.

Also worth throwing out there from personal experience -

How high is your confidence level when it comes to shipping a product of this scale from AUS into the US ( today ) without damage when you don’t have a US side distributor to work with? Definitely something to think about for anyone outside of AUS in my opinion…

For sure a concern. I am hoping Headspace partners with a US importer so they can send them over in batches via container. The US is the number one Grenadier market by a wide margin so this is motivation for Headspace to make sales to the US as simple as possible otherwise their potential sales volume will be quite limited. Either way it is a risk I am willing to take.

I looks like a great option for those who aren't concerned about the decreased head room while driving. Might be a non-issue, but it's concerning for people with a high sitting height. The fellow that modeled it doesn't appear particularly tall and even so his head was not far from that strut. It does look great from the outside lacking the large forehead of the AluCab option. It appears to have a split access hatch which could be quite nice as well. I'd like to see the non-premium version as the wood doesn't do it for me. This may be a good option for those of us with safari windows since it replaces that segment. I haven't found anything about how the AluCab handles that.

He did mention in the video a roof rack option in the works.

Yeah I’m aware but the Headspace roof racks for their existing Toyota / Land Rover etc. conversions are considerably more limited in comparison to Alu-Cab. I don’t see any reason why this would change for the Ineos variant. More so if you’re interested in something like a large Sunflare BLOX array ( 4x to 6x 50W ) along with MaxTrax etc. I suspect this is a somewhat rare use case but it’s one I wanted…

The Sunflare BLOX on top of the Alucab conversion are perfect matchedand easily serviced too. For anyone who has the Alucab top that is the best solar solution.

Headspace Australia just released this video!
And I love it.
Sleek, roomy, and stylish.
What do you think?
Hi, this is my car that was converted, I spent a week in it over xmas to test it out, all I can say is that it is a game changer for sure as I’m planning a year road trip in July. It’s easy to put up and down and doesn’t squeak or make any noise at all. The quality is superb and yes they are about to partner up with a US supplier. The under mount water tanks can be used as both water or fuel.

Any questions feel free to ask.

There is a roof rack being made as we speak. I’ll post some pictures once installed

You need to update your avatar, now you have the RRT installed. Congratulations, show it off.

Hi Ventus1

Thanks for the feedback on your Headspace conversion. I am committed to having the camper put on my Grenadier as soon as one can be delivered to my installer in the US.

Headspace quotes a weight of 85KG. Did you happen to weigh your vehicle before and after to confirm the actual installed weight?

Any issue with headroom while in the drivers seat. I am a pretty average height of 1.765M and based on the detailed video Headspace posted to Youtube it certainly doesn't look like it will be an issue.

Can you speak to how much room is available for bedding when the camper is fully closed? I hope to keep a quilted down blanket and medium sized camp pillows on top of the sleep platform when everything is closed up.

How is the comfort of the mattress? I assume you have the standard thickness of 90mm. I weigh 72kg and prefer firm over soft which makes me think the 75mm option might be better.

Are you planning to install the under mount tanks? I would be interested in using them for fuel and transfer to the main tank using a simple fuel pump.

Any plan to install a 270° style awning? I have not seen the awning brackets Headspace will be offering for the Grenadier.

Safari windows aren’t handled any differently for the Alu-Cab Silenus RTT. That entire section is replaced. This is one of the reasons why we bought our Trialmaster without Safari windows since we knew they would have a fairly short lifespan for our build.
