What I was negotiating on before I bought the gren… the defender the lack of a roof load sucks, and is still a deal killer for me, but for 65000 as a demo unit, and all the trophy equipment, and the limitations on this rig due the front end geometry and all the other unfixable foibles, this really would have been a better buy. Youre gonna end up loving this thing, I think .
My wife still pines for our ‘96 D1 and we both have wanted a new 90. We just kept pushing the search/purchase out, then this one popped up locally. It really checks a lot of boxes. Can’t wait to dig into it a little more.

On JLR's own figures most new Defenders are basically OK; out of 10 vehicles delivered, 5 will have no issues, (other than the ones the dealers create with their own ineptitude), 4 will have minor issues, usually around the infotainment/software load and one will be a total rogue, with multiple issues and not easily sorted by the local dealer or even with JLR input.

JLR have sold a lot of new Defenders, so there are a lot of happy people, slightly less mostly happy people and a 10% band who want to chase JLR staff with fire and pitchforks!

Hopefully you will have one of the good ones, (and the odds are on your side).

That’s good to read. When I get my Gren well and truly stuck, it will me wife in her 90 that I call to winch me out!

1965 LWB Series 2A - ex SAP riot vehicle with a 427 cubic inch Ford Engine ( fitted by the previous owner not the SAP) and gun ports in the back. Owned 1988 through 1990 for travel in RSA/South West/ Zim and Mozambique. Rubbish MPG but petrol was cheap and we had plenty of Jerry cans.

1964 SWB Series 2 - owned 1996 through 2000 in UK - re-painted painted Buckingham Green to colour coordinate with a 1985 Aston V8 Vantage. They looked good side by side. The Series 2 was by far the more reliable of the two.

Plus various rather unmemorable Discoveries in the early 1990's. Switched to Toyota Landcruiser Amazon's after that and stuck with them until the Grenadier appeared.
