Happiness Thread

A lot of times I travelled with my Defender 130 to the Higlands.
Went up to the north-eastern edge, Durness.
Made friends with a Landrover enthusiast there and slept very well in the dunes., next to the military radio tower.
Met a lot of open minded people over the truck.
Hope it will be similar with the Grenadier!
We are planning to take our Grenadier to the Higlands too and to visite our friends e.g. in Edinburgh,

Regards

Excellent idea.
Maybe ask @Stu_Barnes to create a Forum catagory for like minded souls. Just the good stuff and none of the bad.

I have posted this before but it is timely to bring it back because I have never spoken of it's origin.
It is a poem written before I received my Grenadier and came to me from watching, listening and reading everything I could like man possessed about The Grenadier, the Guards, the cyclist team and I throw in the vehicle.
It was a whirlwind of excitement to be so close to something I was falling for and not really needing but don't let that get in the way of a life changing moment, when you pick up your own Grenadier.
Boys and toys, man and machine say what you will but the truth is, the poem is about The Grenadier and what you make of it, a machine, a Warrior, a toy.
The Grenadier is my release to freedom in so many ways, I thank Sir Jim for that and would loved to say that face to face, maybe one day. A Grenadier poem copy.jpg

I'm very happy with my Grenadier.i agree with most that there are some quirks, but they don't take away from the ownership experience.

You do have to scroll past the throw away comments on this forum.

I agree with this being a great vehicle. I only have around 2500 miles on it but love it so far. I am happy to say that I think the software issues, warnings, dings and dongs are easily managed by changing settings in the adas menu and pressing a few buttons on my favorites while a wait for the b58 revs to come down to idle. A lot of the issues that people complain about so much are very minor or non existent. Only time will tell how reliable this vehicle is. The only bonafide concern I have heard is front driveshaft failure and to a lesser extent leaking diff and transfer seals on some vehicles.

Question though. When I Google ineos grenadier forum, why is ineos nightmare a forum tab?? I think this is a rant from one previous member but this negativity is the first thing people see when they start seeing some online research. See attached photo.

Those “tabs” are generated by google, not from here. Directing google to present something else if possible is way beyond my abilities. Although I know it’s partly based on what’s popular…..

My google search presents this. Maybe it’s looking deep into my soul.

Might be based on your search history, I better not share mine 😱

I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed my Grenadier more than any vehicle I’ve owned so far. It’s obviously too early to know what the future will hold but so far it’s been a great start.

The things I appreciate about the vehicle are, first and foremost, that I can wrench on the thing because it’s more analog than some of the more recent FIS vehicles I’ve owned with their constantly monitored electronic suspension/airbags, etc….

I also appreciate that there is less exterior plastic and things like the checker plates on the fenders are actually functional vs. fake.

The interior is also just cool with all the switches. As far as I know, there’s no other vehicle interior like it. Yeah, I wish there was more storage but I’m slowing starting to figure out ways to make it work…and maybe that’s a blessing in disguise because everyone can decide for themselves where to customize, rather than INEOS deciding for us (and us potentially not liking the design).

The last for me is a double edge sword. Personally I like things that are unique but not shouty. Unfortunately the unintended consequences of a pseudo-retro style, along with the limited amount of Grenadiers on the road, is that I see more Ferraris, GT3s, and Lambos on the road than Grenadiers in my area. I literally stick out like a sore thumb. Almost any parking lot I go to are filled with pickups and similarly shaped/styled vehicles and then there’s me….bamm!!…tall, square, and Magic Mushroom😂😂. That last part is my fault, but come on, it’s “hearing-aid” tan. Man, does it stick out in a parking lot🤪

Almost a year in, +8,500 miles on the Trialmaster as a daily driver - I love the truck. Quirks and all.

I’ve had the normal known issues: AC weirdness (resolved with a re-charge and by following the known work-arounds) boot wash / leaking door seals, infotainment oddities, etc. Every time I try to fix the door seals the dealer is out of stock which is a pain because I’m really tired of draining the floor. BUT! There’s a hole in the floor where the water can drain! THAT makes me happy.

Maybe the most helpful key to happiness with the vehicle is: know what you’re getting. I don’t pretend Ineos isn’t a billion dollar multinational chemical conglomerate with a car hobby.

amateur /ăm′ə-tûr″, -tər, -choo͝r″, -chər, -tyoo͝r″/
noun
1. One who engages in an art, science, study, or athletic activity as a pastime rather than as a profession.

People poo-poo an “amateur”. But the definition boils down to doing something you love to do simply because you love to do it. To have the time, resources, and prolonged interest enough to create this vehicle is an envious hobby that’s for sure. Yeah, I’m saying Sir Jim is an amateur car manufacturer. We wouldn’t have the truck if it wasn’t for Sir Amateur creating car-art, creating something from nothing, and that makes me happy. Let’s hope he turns pro. But not too pro, because then we'll have… everything else ...and you'll have to drill your own holes in the floor.

My wife figured after 37 years of ownership, i'd be buried in my 1988 FJ62 Land Cruiser. But then Angus, my 2024 Scottish White Grenny came along and, after a trouble-free, but nonetheless, quirky year of ownership, I've got a new best buddy to play with. And I gotta admit, every time I park it, I look back at it in admiration.

I know which one is going, due mainly to space.
After 18 years, the Defender is no longer required.
I do absolutely love my old Defender, but the Grenadier offers a similar experience with the addition of power and comfort.
I fully expect it to see out what is left of my driving life.
