Fuel Prices

Saturday when the US went to war with Iran, that day I went to Costco and filled up both tanks (OEM & LRA) @$3.46/gal. Today is @$4.39, so +93¢. I need to fill up again tomorrow. I like my LRA tank, when I find cheap gas, I fill up both tanks. Looks like Moab is $4.49, so similar to Colorado.

Normally everything on the 70 from Sevier to Grand Junction is some of the cheapest gas in the west.

There is a new Maverick in the Arizona strip between Nevada and Utah that I generally fill up at. Current diesel price is $5.08 a gallon ($1.89/l AUD)

My company trucks burn about 6000 gallons of diesel a month so that’s almost $12,000 extra expense. I have one supplier that burns almost 10,000 gallons a day.

I work with a fleet that has over 7000 USG daily fuel burn, only a small fleet compared to some of the mining fleets in the region. They put all thier empty 80kL 6 may be 7 relocatable bulk tanks back into service and filled their fixed bulk tanks full. They had triple road trains 90kL each qued all day topping tanks within hours of the start of the conflict. On top of that a lot mines in the area also immediately topped off their bulk fuel tanks and transportable tanks. Travel the Peak Downs highway today and the number of fuel tankers doesn't appear any less even with diesel pushing $3+/L in the servos and town prices not much less.
The advantage the big miners have over every one else in Australia is direct contracts with fuel suppliers and decent tax breaks on the excise making the fuel cheaper.
When you see the number of triple roadtrains 90kL, Quads 150kL, B double and triples on the crappy 2 lane highways west of Rockhampton, Mackay and Townsville the amount of diesel used in the region compared to the number people living in the area is staggering.

With the fuel prices climbing fast for the people who use their 4x4 (not Ineos specific) as a daily as well as for touring how many have reconsidered their vehicles set up for better economy so touring doesn't totally drain the bank account?
I know with my old 70 reducing the profile by dropping the canopy going to 265 16 AT tyres and using basic tool boxes in the tray for the fridge and storage it will easily drop 4L/100km on the highway.

Maybe the start/stop system is not that bad after all???

I come from the air cooled turbo days of idling down an engine for a couple of minutes before devices like Bogaard Turbo Timers came along. I habitually turn off the stop-start (by hand, old school) but I cringe if I forget and my engine stops at the first stop sign. Turbo cooling has come a long way and these engines have auxiliary electric pump cooling circuits to handle this stuff but my lizard brain still doesn't like it. But your point is quite valid for a Grenadier that does a daily city commute. It will add up a bit.

I haven't driven my Grenadier in 10 days. It's gassed up for a trip next week so I'm using my 16 year old DMax if I need to go somewhere. It's a former ARB promotional vehicle with all the fruit. It's still featured on the ARB website.
