FOLDABLE TAILGATE CAMP TABLE

The Grenadier website has little information concerning the optional camp table beyond a few words ("useful, robust table") & some pictures.

I have included it in my purchase as I think it's very well priced at A$440.

Nevertheless, does anyone know the dimensions of the table, it's weight & load carrying capacity?

The picture below seems to show 2 vertical slots in the metal at the top.

Could these be slots to insert legs for extra loads? If so, where are the legs?

Just the closing mechanism by the look of it.
Pretty basic table.

showing the installation of an aftermarket camp table for Toyota 76 from a company called Svnty6 (https://www.svnty6.com.au/)

Actually - Svnty6 have a lot of neat products.

Their camp tablecosts A$450, looks solid and seems about the same size as the Grenadier option. It can hold up to 10kg.

I assume the Grenadier table would be at least similar rated

I'd agree with you that for what it is, it seems a lot of money. Trouble is, the market is very small by comparison to get the economies of scale required to reduce the retail cost... by way of example I got a bit of a shock recently when a long-standing mate of mine, bored with retirement(!), decided to make some 'widgets' (to do with industrial aircon fixtures) in his farm shed. Suffice to say they required some straightforward sheet metal bending as well as powder coating etc. . The contract cost to outsource the stamping/guillotining/powder coating...plus fastener costs, assembly time/packaging materials plus printing/product liability insurance/ changes to his farm insurance (he would be reclassified as a 'manufacturer') and a design tradmark.... transport to/from the farm....the standing costs worked out that he had to make 2,000 to break even at $143.50 ...then additional production would reduce the marginal cost to $85. (none of the foregoing included advertising and promotion costs...) He naively thought they could be produced for about $15 ea!! (Probably could if he outsourced the lot offshore!)

I've been toying with a folding design using scrounged laminated flooring offcuts glued to 12mm ply but hinged from the top so that the table surface is supported from underneath, which marginally improves the weight bearing capacity, eliminates the space constraint of the support cords (and their attendant 'stretch') in the above design... it will probably take me forever and cost who knows how much... a man has to have a hobby!

My issue with wanting to know the load limit was also understanding the impact on the support wire/cord or whatever it is.

A small metal telescopic arm, hinged at the top of the table could pop out of a small plastic holding bracket and lock into place.

This could either take the place of the wire or act as additional support.

Stainless braided wire would just about support your bodyweight. The potential weakness is in the attachment points.
Many ways to design a rear table. And btw Vitrabond offcuts (recycle centres - old signs) are quite useful - light and strong if built over a frame.

Yes but the Ineos one is gray and has slots.

I can only tell that it seemed a very solid solution at the A&A fair. All metal and quite robust.

That sounds huge but then have a look at the inside of the door and the mounts I presume the table will pick on...they are rather large too.

Not so much a table but a built in stage.

I was working on the theory the door can take 100kgs (stated somewhere) and the spare only weighs 50kgs

Here's a video of a guy using the fold down door table in a new defender. He also uses the special spare wheel storage compartment, although it seems to be more velcro security than lockable.
I love the way he uses the air in his spare tyre to pressurize his shower.

That was exactly what I was going to say. Looks like he is in Japan but that is a left hand drive vehicle. Unless he intentionally over inflates his spare he is going to regret that one day

I am going to go with 5kg & 50kg

50kg is a lot of weight to support without legs - so I am going for 5kg for the table & 25kg load bearing capacity - and that would still give it roughly twice the max weight of 2 similar aftermarket fold down tables I have seen.
