On most of my previous cars, I’d have a regular non-fob type duplicate key made so that if I was going hiking or whatever, I could leave the fob in the car and just tuck the small key in my sock.
I’d like to do the same thing with my Grenadier but I don’t know if this screws with the programming like it does on some other cars. For example, the older Rover LR3s and some other LRs have some sort of lockdown mechanism where if you leave a fob inside the vehicle and then lock the car with a non-fob key, it can cause the vehicle to enter a locked mode (don’t know a technical term) and then it’s a real problem getting access again and can only be done at a dealer who has a fob programming thingy — and you’d have to tow it to a dealer. Several locksmiths told me this when I was trying to have a key cut for one of my Rovers.
Anyone familiar with this or know if it can be done with the Grenadier without causing problems?
