Drowning my Grenadier (a sorry, soggy saga)

There’s one on autotrader for £35k! Not a bad spec, safari windows and high load switches but no axle lockers or heated seats.

Cheapest I’ve seen by a fair margin. Lots around the £40-45k mark so you can be choosey.

I had a phone call from the claims engineer this afternoon. He has seen the estimate and it is over £40k, so the vehicle's fate depends very much on the expressed market value. At the time of the incident it was less than 2 years old, so one possibliity is a new one at £72k + bits, but he expects that claims will want to settle at "market value". At the kind of money intimated, I'd rather have mine fixed!
I would ask the dealer for evidence of what they were selling for at the time of the initial claim to the insurance. This has had such a long delay they will have dropped further. It won't be an as new price but if they are only offering market value it should be when the drowning occurred not 3 yrs later (slight exaggeration). Get as much evidence as possible for vehicles of a similar spec. Point out you didn't take advantage with a courtesy vehicle, which would have cost them more.
Good luck

Absolutely agree, the prices vary hugely according to spec so try to find some identical to yours.

I could only find one in “my” spec: diesel Trialmaster with cloth, steelies and safari windows. It was about £55k, compared to most basic versions in the 40-45 range. Lots of petrol ones which seem to be worth less. Lots without safari windows.

I've been going through the various adverts with Ineos, Autotrader and eBay to offer NFU some focus. I want to avoid the M1 models, so I'm looking for a 5 seat diesel utility with the same options as mine has. I cannot find any! I did not think my build was that weird, but I must be stranger than I thought!

One thing I would like different is lockers, not because I'd use them but because it makes a difference to the perceived value. The lack of a ladder is a regret as well.

When I initially specced my Diesel N1 I went with the minimum. My wife suggested I get everything I thought I might need. Ended up with everything bar the winch and second battery, including saddle leather which has ended up being one of my very favourite options.

I can only think of a couple of reasons for avoiding the M1. No 1, is the tax, and No 2, the legal use of the receiver socket for towing. On the tax front. All now paid with exception of he higher road fund license. Not sure where we are with insurance. My N1 is around the £600.00 mark.
