Did you ever have rattling issues with that extension? I bought it as well but gave up due to the rattling and the inability to find an anti rattle solution given its solid shank
I use one of these, depending on security need. The top one is an Iron Grip anti-rattle, bolt-together pin.

My 1Up hitch-mount rack is fine for me on day-to-day bike rides near home, but for my Colorado wheeling/MTB trips I need to do something different.

I'm going to mess around with interior mounting ideas, as well as potentially a ladder mount. Interior would be ideal as it also inherently incorporates a greater anti-theft factor. As I envision it, a ladder mount would have much better departure angle than the hitch-mount.... hopefully. I'm 6'5" tall and all my bikes are pretty slack (i.e. long wheelbase), so that creates some packaging issues.
