Corrosion

I have some corrosion on the hinges themselves which they have agreed to replace, and I know another member who has just had his rear hinges replaced under warranty for the same thing.
Concerning to see what looks like galvanic action on the door itself.
Yep definitely galvanic by the looks of it, when my dealer responds I’ll post it here!

I feel reminded to my old defender when my healer told me that the aluminiumdoors were fixed on steelframes. So the steel rotted under the aluminium

It is more likely vice versa. Aluminium is more the base metall, the anode, providing ions and thereby corroding. If the steel corrodes it is more likely due to normal corrosion.

The ratio of aluminium and steel is also important. If you just have a little bit of steel and a lot of aluminium, the steel can't absorb too much ions, thereby the alu corrodes very slowly.

My guess is, if you installed a door hinge step and you experience this type of corrosion, warranty is mostly like not applied in this case unless it becomes a recall.

I would suspect any modifications could be a cause for Ineos to reject the claim however, if you can prove there was a gasket type barrier that prevented the chance of additional galvanic corrosion, they may be more sympathetic. Ineos have stated they want owners to modify their vehicles.

You asserted seemingly out of the blue. I’m curious why.

Grant you I am indeed hoping the op did mess with the vehicle. Don’t want this to be another warranty issue we all hang to deal with
The same with the drive shaft issue, INEOS has shown to be strict with modifications which ends up not being covered under warranty. I have door hinges installed on mine and I’m hoping this doesn’t become a common issue that will eventually pop up in the future.

I’m starting to see some corrosion on these running board things that come from Ineos. Not very impressed And the dealer simply said that’s the way it goes, but I think it’s poor form frankly I’ve only been out in the snow on a couple of occasions and it’s pretty obvious and somewhat unsightly. I suppose in the spring I could get some trim clad on there, but it seems to me that they weren’t well painted or prepared properly for what they were meant to do and the price that they charge for them. Let me be very clear. I’m very happy with the vehicle, but I think they’ve cut some corners here.

Ok but your running board issue has nothing to do with this door hinge corrosion. There are probably many threads on the OEM steps rusting.

My side steps were replaced by the dealer because the powder coatings was breaking up and rusting. Apparently the problem is common on early UK vehicles. The original quality was so bad that the dealer had them re-powder coated by a local company instead of putting IA new ones back on.

Mine were changed too, 2023 model

Galvanized steel and aluminium. Never a good marriage. Needs to have a separation barrier in-between. Not sure if they did this, or maybe they thought the paint him selves wil form that barrier? At the moment no problems on mine and it's an early model.

What's been galvanised?
The paint coating is rather anaemic.
Raptor coat it.

The Aussies called that out early on, and noted the side runners were made in China. There are better aftermarket options out there for sure.

The same phenomenon was typical of later [TD5 on] classic Defenders. I lost count of the times I had side bars/steps, mudflap brackets, headlamp bezels and sundry other poorly powder coated bits replaced under warranty on various Defenders.

Bit hard to home repair powder coating on items that get dinged and scratched through normal wear and tear. Sliders, steps, underbody protection.
