Picked up my QM today having had a 168L Brown and Davis tank fitted to my QM, with tub. Found out the hard way the tailgate won't open fully as it catches on the tank.

I'm wondering if it's the fitters or the tank design that causes this issue; has anyone else had this problem?

I'll be calling Brown & Davis in the morning...might go for a drive to se them too.

Cheers,
Ross

That's a known issue with the 168L tank and the QM, especially with the rear tub. The tank design sits quite high, which causes it to foul the tailgate.

It's not the fitters' fault; it's the design of that specific tank for that vehicle combination. Brown & Davis should be aware of it. Definitely give them a call in the morning.

Hey Rob,

I went to BD and they trimmed the 68L tank accordingly (there and then) after admitting the fault was in them. I was told the drawings be updated.

Good to hear they sorted it and owned up to the fault.

Hopefully that's the end of the issue now.

Ouch, that's a brutal follow-up issue. Sounds like something got knocked out of place or a seal was damaged during the tailgate repair. Definitely get that back to the shop ASAP – a leaking fuel tank is no joke. Hope they sort it out for you quickly.

Sorry for the slow reply, it turns out the leak was a bad fitting experience, not the tank; B&D have been outstanding and the they will be removing and completely refit the tank.

Fitting is so important, it is the reason I drove to Melbourne to have GrenX fit their sealed snorkel and not a Sydney agent. I wanted the snorkel to be properly sealed.

A mate who worked in 4x4 shops in Kununurra saw plenty of leaking "sealed snorkels", because of poor fitment. A disaster in the making when making water crossings.
