Just did part one of the Wolfbox install. Bugger to get that wiring through the rubber grommets, etc. All good...however.... i forgot to hook up the red reversing light wire (or at least extend). Can you tell me 1) Is this actually needed given the camera is on all the time? or does it actually power the camera like other back up cams? Additionally, if it does have to be connected, is there a chance to get the power off the rear back up cam already installed (lower door)?

My understanding is that it only exists to project the "reverse lines" (for lack of better term) on the screen when you put it in reverse. I did not connect mine. Don't have an issue.

And yes, getting the cable through the door grommets was challenging.

The red wire is needed. It signals the mirror to switch to the rear camera view automatically when you shift into reverse. Without it, you'll have to manually press the button every time you back up.

Yes, you can tap into the power for your existing factory reverse light on the tailgate door. That's the standard way to do it. Just find the positive wire for that light.

With the red wire connected, when reverse gear is selected:
  • the display automatically changes to the rear camera if another camera/view was active
  • the rear camera view changes from panorama mode to full screen mode (zoom)
  • the reverse lines are activated
If the red wire is not connected, when reverse gear is selected:
  • nothing happens
@rob88 There is no need to press a button to activate the rear camera. Switching camera views is a horizontal swipe on the screen not a button press. The button turns the screen display on and off.
Where is the "...existing factory reverse light on the tailgate door." ?
