Windshield Wiper Issue

Old thread I know but my favorite treatment by far is PPG Aqualpel. You but it in these little applicators that your crack and wipe all over the windscreen. Then you buff it with a microfiber. Really works well but it is a pain in the a** to apply. Probably take 20 minutes to rub off the residual but man does it last and work.

Did a search bc I had a feeling this would be a common issue with the Grenny. Yesterday we got rain in AZ, my first time using wipers and holy hell are they just simply trash. I found a parts store bought the Icon Bosch 16" thought my OEM one were just bad from factory, hell no just the same.... It was coming down so bad on the I10 I pulled off and had to wait some of it to go by. I will be calling dealer up on Monday to see what we can do to resolve this. Putting coating on might work until it doesn't and I forget to apply it again and just accepting this normal is not safe if I can't see where I'm going. I could only wonder how bad that would have been at night in the rain.

Real question has anyone actually found a solve for this? As in no coating or a wiper that does work? Or as in was mentioned a spring for the arm? Is there anyone that does not have the chattering wipers?

Not sure how old your Gren is, but AZ sounds like a tough environment for rubber wipers. I’d look for silicone replacements. In the meantime clean your windscreen then wipe down the wipers with alcohol or acetone.

My Gren was built Sept. 2023, delivered Jan. 2024, and my wipers are good to go.

I have new ones on since yesterday during the rain. my windscreen was clean and used the cleaner spray which make the wipers work fine until it was wiped away. My was built in 2024.

As well decontaminating the windscreen with some clay. Change to 16 inch Denso Hybrid wipers. They are the best.

A clay bar often does an excellent job...👍
A tablespoon of mineral turps, plus 25% windscreen concentrate (1 to 3 with water) in a repurposed shower or laundry spray bottle, give it a good shake then apply generously to windscreen and scrub with a damp microfibre cloth. Wash off with water and squeegee /chamois dry. Will remove bugs, road grime etc and reduce chattering significantly. Clean wiper blades with solution and microfibre cloth.... Secret formula I've used for years...😉 Especially after prolonged dry weather spell when first rains loosen the buildup of tyre particles and other hydrocarbon fallout on the road surfacw... Besides, you can stow in a plastic bag ready for use, (along with all the other GVM allowance-eating "just in case " bits and pieces !)

Am I being thick? Why not just use a good propiortory market glass cleaner. I just use Autoglym glass cleaner ( available here in the UK) and does what it says on the bottle.

Dumb luck here, living in Vancouver. I've never "maintained" a windshield on any vehicle and my Grenadier wipers are good. They are used constantly. But we do get more rain here in a single autumn month than Phoenix gets in an entire year so I reckon wipers and glass never dry out or get hot enough here to need attention.

Sigh. I'll creep back to the "road salt and rust" thread now, where the AZ folks probably never tread... 🍻

It is a pretty common thing that has been talked about... Some believe the spring forcing the wipers down isn't strong enough. For me it was made 60-70% better after switching from the OEM wipers to Bosch Icon wipers. Personally, I keep the windshield well coated with a ceramic sealant (Griot's Ceramic 3-in-1) and Rain-X, to minimize the use of wipers in general
Check the Bosch website and they claim the 16a won't fit our 2025 Grenadier?

Not sure what to tell you but I went through several sets of Bosch Icon 16A's on the windshield of the Grenadier with no issues

I think in the UK the model equivalent is the Bosch Aerotwin AR16U for the front MY23, not sure what the rear is though 🤔

I just got a set of Bosch wipers thinking this would finally solve my problem and it’s skipping just as much as the OEM wipers. I have to use my wipers at the highest speed for it to not be as annoying while it’s raining. Bought them at the dealership. Quite disappointed as I spent $108 on them. Part number BS16A.

I'm lucky we don't really got much rain here in AZ, but yeah I've had dealer put on three sets so far still same issue with skipping. I even had a new windshield put in, still issue remains. It would be really sad to have to lemon over wipers. lol I think they are going to swap out the arms next.

I think that would be the next logical step. There’s something going on with the mechanics of how the wiper system functions. I notice the first few swipes they glide perfectly than it gets very grippy and they start skipping like crazy. I’ll have to get in touch with the dealer to see what they can do.

$108 on Bosch wiper blades?!?! That's well over double the normal price from Amazon or your local auto parts store.

I would make sure the windshield is contaminant free (something like Invisible glass' Glass Stripper (maybe pre clean with a razor blade if needed), then a couple cycles of glass cleaner, and also clean the wiper blades.

Initially I had thought they would install them free of charge to help with the issue but they said they could only swap them for free if they were OEM blades. One thing to note, they do a little bit better than the OEM’s at the highest speed level but that’s it. What’s the exact name or part number on Amazon?

You described it perfectly, it starts then they chop like crazy at any speed. It's so annoying and it doesn't move water while chopping so I don't like to drive it while raining.

For those contemplating a windshield protection film the skipping issue doesn’t get any better. Most films have a bit of tack feeling to them so if you’ve already got skipping issues the protection film isn’t going to improve it. The only partial remedy I’ve found is a higher quality set of blades from Bosch or equivalent but more importantly making sure the blade sits perfectly perpendicular to the glass and keeping the windshield as clean as possible.

You’ll have to twist the wiper arm to achieve the perfect anngle and even then it won’t stay that way. Ideally the rubber needs to flip over smoothly as the wiper changes direction but with our flat windshields, shorter arms, smaller blades this is just the nature of the beast. The worse thing for the wipers is sitting in the parked position for long periods of time especially in hot conditions as the blades bake into position and the rubber hardens and won’t smoothly flip back and forth while wiping.

I've had the Bosch recommended ones on, they didn't work and when I went to the shop they said that is what caused the issues. Had OEM put back on, they seen the issue and blamed the glass, new glass same issue with OEM. In the mean time I ordered a pair of those dual blade style and they skip. I put OEM back on and waiting for next steps. .... Saving grace here is we don't "get" rain here in AZ. lol

The dual's I used: https://www.scrubblade.com/products/black-wiper-blade
