Had my MY23 in for a service and it's come back with wheel bearing noise. Personally I'm really cautious with wheel bearings, as I was in quite a scary accident when one disintegrated in my old Landy. Had the O/S one gone, I would have easily gone into oncoming traffic at 70mph.

When I was told that it needed replacing, I wasn't expecting to be booked in for a late January repair. The service centre have said that it's a warranty fix and I should only get it done via Ineos, as the process is difficult and 'needs instructions to be followed to avoid damage". But I can't wrap my head around the fact that it's not an urgent matter to get these replaced or that the service centres don't carry WB's on hand for this exact issue?

I guess what I'm getting at is, what's the right thing to do here? Will the bearing hold out for a thousand or so miles if I'm getting a report of noise from the wheel or should I be calling round independent garages? It's just frustrating that there are so few places to get these cars repaired.

Has anyone had a WB repaired 3rd party and was it straightforward?

I think @Tom D has changed one but not easy if it’s the rear one as it needs a specialist socket to fit the hub nut on the rear
Which not even every Ineos dealer has yet themselves. Or at least Compass Automotive didn’t have at the time they replaced my rear oil seal. 600nm of torque to tighten rear hub nut also.
If the dealer can’t change it for a while then you need assurance from them or Ineos that’s it’s OK to continue using the vehicle. But you shouldn’t have to wait until the end of January for a wheel bearing ! That’s madness.

Thanks.

Compass actually carried out the service. I can’t knock their customer service and willingness to help, just very frustrating the fix couldn’t be identified early on in the service and actioned there. But if the tool isn’t there and no WB’s on hand, not much I can do.

It’s a front one, so at least not a worst case. The report was for noise from the bearing, so maybe we’ve not quite got to there being play in the wheel. I will need to see if they’ll give some kind of comparison for how bad they’ve seen them get, but it can’t be a common fault in vehicles this young.

👍🏼Compass are good in my books.
Hub nut on the front needs a 41mm socket. And you need a serious press to press the bearing in.
@Tom D documented how to do the job. It may be in Rok_Dr’s guide. Which you can find a link to under resources
