Oof — hopefully I’m not the only one here who learns various things that I cannot fathom I didn’t already knew!
— This is embarrassing. If you look at your gas gauge in your car, there’s a tiny arrow that points to which side of your car you put gas in. Me = um WHAT???!! Shock, disappointment, mind blown. Nobody told me. Been driving for 150 years, clueless. Just learned that about 5 years ago!
— Awareness of using google lens. I love me a thrift store score; I was at a thrift store looking at a vase, wondering if it had value. A woman much older than me approached me and said — you could take a picture of it and have google lens find visual matches. Me — oh yeah uh huh totally — I do that all the time too
. It was a blow to my common sense, which caused a deep shame spiral. Anyone else not know? Like anyone?
— SO many things about my iPhone: I still feel like I only know the tip of the iceberg:
- Texting a link or webpage. I used to manually copy a link, open texts, find the person, paste link, and send. Um, now I know that all I have to do when on a web page is hit the little arrow next to the web address to share it. So much easier.
- Using markup in photo editing. Let’s say there’s something in a picture I want to circle or put a shape around , or point to. SO annoyingly sloppy! So I’d keep redoing it, trying to make it neater. WELL. Instead, make the circle or the line or whatever, then just hold your finger for a few seconds — poof — the sloppy circle turns into a perfectly round circle, or the line turns perfectly straight, or the square is actually square. As a perfectionist, absolute heaven.
- Scrolling a web page. Let’s say I’m down at the bottom of an extremely long web page and want to get back to the top. Scroll scroll scroll scroll scroll still scrolling here. All you have to do is tap the middle of the top of your phone (sort of right above the web address) and, boom, right to the top.
- Creating a text shortcut for your email address. My email address is ann********@hotmail.com. I have to type that long thing a thousand times a year. But all you have to do is create a text shortcut in settings. My text shortcut for my email address is nn — so anytime I need to enter my email address (for a log in, for making a purchase, putting it in a text or email etc) — all I have to type is - nn, then space - and my email address is instantly inserted.
Anyone else have a good one? I need to know the things that I don’t know! Don’t leave me hanging lol.
