Uprated suspension springs

Are there any uk suppliers for airbags?
Also would be interested to assist occasional towing.

G
I can't answer your supplier question @Grumpy (my wife calls me that), but this is the heavy duty set specified by airbagman for Grenadier. The heavy duty set includes a Kevlar cloth jacket to protect the airbags from sticks and stones. @Tazzieman is running this set on his vehicle.

They may ship internationally or have a UK dealer if you ask on their installers and dealers page - here.

Thanks, it was my misses who gave me the nickname too, joke in a kind way that stuck.

I've emailed airbagman so I'll see what happens.

Good evening all! I have a 2 seat utility which is boxed out to carry tools and parts as a service vehicle. With me sat in it on a weigh bridge it is 3440kgs, so 60 kgs off max. Weight. It drives and carries the weight well, but does sit a bit lower at the rear. I want some uprated rear springs to get it back up to normal kerb height, but not sure where to source in the uk? The dealer has suggested aftermarket rather than through Ineos….
I would suggest than contacting https://www.svtech.co.uk/about-svtech/ in the UK might be a good option. They should be able to uprate the gross vehicle maximum (that will give you some leeway) and quote you on upgrading the rear suspension.

The Extra Heavy Duty (XHD) Eibach springs – Minimum constant load 300kg, are pretty beefie...is it ball weight or just a constant load you are concerned about?

I have just ordered my Eibachs after discussing the pros and cons with the service bloke at XHQ, because of my type of typical driving and towing weights the standard will be fine because they are already a stronger rated spring. They are the same height as the originals but the vehicles height gain is due to less sag and I won't have to wear a kidney belt :)
Morning Max just read your post on suspension, currently thinking of an upgrade I’m just concerned about the lift on the driveline, how are your new Eibach springs performing, did you change the shocks & installed air bags, has the upgraded affected the angle of your driveline. Regards Ed

You could get an rzeppa joint as a spare part ahead of time. It's not very expensive and any mechanic should be able to put it on.

I'm looking at the eibach hd for mine. A slight lift so I'll add the rzeppa to my parts. I'm also eyeing the metalcloak dual rate spring, it's supposed to handle extra weight well. I'll know in a couple of weeks when they come out. They are local to me. I will add helper bags no matter which springs I buy. Airbagman out of Australia.

The upgrade has lifted the front by 50mm, the rear 35mm with little change of the angle of the driveline standing still. The vehicle is now near level and still using the standard shocks. It rides a little stiffer but happier when towing and no bags needed because I am only towing a 750kg trailer empty and roughly 1.5 tonne full with little ball weight. Talk to Expedition Head Quarters, they are champions in this area.

I've been using the PolyAir bags for a 2inch lift from GrenX. This is with the Eibach 2.5+ kit that I purchased from Owl and had Owl install (together with the air bags). I'm not sure which rate of Eibach springs that Owl kit included?

Around town I kept about 5psi in the bags. But as I've added weight, particularly the rooftop tent and the long ranger tank, I've been having more and more rear sag necessitating higher PSI in the bags. When towing (a 6500lb trailer) I would take the bags up to 35-40psi. I had about 14K miles doing this until I had a bag pop while on I-17 heading down from Flagstaff to Phoenix. I let the air out of the other bag and finished the journey home with a sagging ass.

GrenX was super helpful and got Polyair to send me a replacement bag at no cost.

I'm about to add drawers to the back (if the Buzz Overland shipment ever arrives....) so, I'd like to change the rear springs with higher capacity constant load rating. Any suggestions for which springs would be best for my need?

I'd really like for the airbags to not be doing any of the weight sharing when I am dry weight (including full fuel in both tanks, the rooftop tent, and the drawers without the fridge installed), and then use the airbags to level when I am fully loaded up (full camping gear, water, tools, food, etc. and/or pulling the trailer). That way I'm not overusing the airbags. But at the same time I don't want to have such high rate springs that the ride is overly harsh.

@Zimm I had the Firestone bags on my 100 series too, but also had a failure on one of those when I had a full compression on one side while towing.

Here's a photo of the Polyair failure:

What about the 500lbs springs from eibach with a 1" spacer from metalcloak?
Ideally you go to a scale and weigh front and rear axles to be certain.

I'm going to do the above with airbagman airbags but without the spacer. I think ill land at 1.4" lift in the rear and 1.7" up front at full tank of gas, my drawers and myself but otherwise empty. When loaded up for camping I anticIpate I'll have to put some psi in the airbags.

I have had the Eibach 2” HD in for around 40000kms, with 295 tyres, overall very happy with the set up, however CV failed at 56000kms, waiting on Ineos to do testing, sampling and comparison testing, when they finally collect the vehicle from where I live, some 130kms from the dealer.
Once resolved I will airbags as also fit long range tank.
I have a spare Rzeppa but will see what Ineos do.

👍🏼. I’ve done similar. Upgraded to Ineos Black marked springs with airbag man HD airbags in rear and LRA auxiliary petrol tank,

installed by Compass Automotive in Bridgewater.

Update.
Got contacted through Pedders UK.
They can import, 4 - 6 weeks lead in and £350 for the HD Kit.

So that looks like a solution.

If you're going Air, maybe worth having a chat with VB Air ( https://www.vbairsuspension.com/en/pickups ), ort more likely Armitages ( https://armitages.uk/)
Had an Air Suspension kit installed om my Camper...
Armitages are old-school engineering company, and very helpful
I also had specific springs made-up by a company in Sheffield ( https://springcoil.co.uk/ ) for my classic Defender. Excellent service... If you give them the spec, and ask for +20% stiffer (for instance) - they will make them for you! Had mine 10 years now, no problems

They sound a good company. However depending on what you are doing with the vehicle it may pay to stick to OEM springs but heavier duty and helper airbags from a well known brand such as airbagman as it will always be easy to get replacement parts to match in various parts of the world.

Here’s mine on the upgraded OEM black mark springs and airbagman HD airbags in the rear springs. First impressions after a two hour drive at mainly motorways speed. A bit stiffer ride but still super comfortable for me. Definitely riding a bit higher now. Mine seemed low from the start and was definitely lower when parked next to my mates Grenadier in Fieldmaster spec.
