Fuel prices this morning at Grindley Brook, Whitchurch, Shropshire, some 20+ pence per litre cheaper than almost everywhere else in the UK.

If a small fuel company can do it, and do it very regularly, why are we as customers elsewhere just sitting back accepting being ripped off by the major oil companies and supermarkets?

Local to me so use them often. Never any issues.

Hi there, Have a play with this site. https://www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au/
Postcode 6000 is Perth.
6714 is Karratha driving distance1500 Klm (950 Ml) north.
6725 is Broome driving distance 2238 Klm (1385 Ml).
Divide by 2 for the pommie price in pence.
Now you can see why we're whinging about the size of the tank. It's a long time between drinks especially if you are towing.
Aberdeen thats a suburb of London isn't it?

What's the price of beer/litre?
Is your beer tank big enough?
They tell me grey nomadding is all beer and skittles 😁
Can't wait to turn grey!

Yes well that's where the Poms win. You pay upto $13 a pint in Perth. In the UK it can be a lot cheaper with a greater variety. Umm well the tank has become smaller with age but the emissions have increased. As for the skittles I stopped paling them when I left Blighty for the promised land 40 years ago. Don't be too quick to turn grey there are a lot more downs compared to the ups.
Cheers, Grey Nomad.

I left it 52 years ago; I recall a great cruise with lots of grown ups boozing ,and lots of vomiting!
But as an 8 yo there were fun times with quoits and a sloshing saltwater pool, my intro to swimming in a sea..

Not much more than what we pay for Diesel in CA - still see it between $6 - $6.50 per gallon. Our issue is not caused by greedy oil companies so much as by the children that run our state....

Oil companies are making record profits as the price of crude oil falls but the pump price remains high.
l am not sure if anyone can do anything about it.

We should all buy electric cars…

I am no genius but in a time when fuel and power is going up quicker that a NASA rocket, but the fuel and power companies are actually posting record profits, it didn’t take me long to work out, we the customer are having the piss taken out of us.

I go to Wales regularly and a lot of those Essar stations are competitively priced.

I actually commented the other day to the other half….in what alternate reality did I ever think that paying £1.49 per litre for Diesel was a bargain !! Crazy

In the UK we’ve had to deal with a weak £ v US$ for a number of years. With oil priced in US$’s that’s going to continue to hurt for a while, has improved marginally over the last couple of months.

Oil companies make less profit than fast food companies, Starbucks etc. The government also make more per gallon in taxes than do oil companies. We hear over and over in California about greedy oil companies - but they are amateurs compared to the government.
Governments collect funds through taxes, which they use to provide services to citizens and visitors.
Often they don't use them vey efficiently, but still that is the nature of government everywhere.
In Australia we have a fuel excise of 47.7 cents per litre paid by bulk customers when fuel is taken from a fuel terminal.
You can see below only 51% of all fuel buyers paid the full tax rate.
In fact 32% only paid 7.2 cents per litre
There is an addition 10% tax (GST) for retail customers at the bowser, but a large percentage of this 10% tax is claimed back as cost of business.

The issue we are having is the government is using a lot of that money to install electric vehicle charging infrastructure and EV's don't pay any of the tax.
Either at the terminal or at the bowser.

l was going to add, what will happen when we all drive electric vehicles and the tax revenue from petrol and diesel starts to dry up, l hope they don't start taxing electric vehicles on some way to make up for it.

That’s already planned. Road tax for electric vehicles is going to happen. And once we are all driving them they will have to get an income source to match the ICE vehicles road tax from somewhere to fill the coffers

Car-related taxes in Germany total 100 billion euros per year.

How can you believe that the state does not want to do without it? It is a good state, as we all know, which is always concerned about the welfare of its citizens.

At any rate, that's what ministers swear when they are sworn in: "I swear that I will devote my strength to the welfare of the German people, increase its benefits, avert harm from it, uphold and defend the Basic Law and the laws of the Federation, fulfill my duties conscientiously and do justice to everyone. So help me God. "

Is it different in your country?

So don't worry. We are safe.

(sorry, wrong thread. Belongs in "Chuckle in Your Day"

I think we all live in different parts of the world and what the state intends to do versus what it actually does are very different.

I am ok with oil giants ripping everyone off - that is what happens when you 'force' change and talk about shutting companies down (oil/gas/coal) and using taxpayer funds to incentivise the EV/renewables market.. They are making bank while they can, and I would do the same. But I still cannot justify paying $70K minimum for a basic family EV... so I will stick to ICE vehicles until such time that fuel costs outweigh the savings of going electric - YoY. I am all for renewables - but gosh don't use my tax to make these businesses rich...

I was looking at fast/super charging stations on the Gold Coast/Brisbane and they are all around 50c/kwh. So, with the high cost of an EV + 'energy'' costs of about 15c/km travelled - it simply doesnt add up right now to run an EV as a replacement. Maybe when an equivalent Model3 is selling for $40K... and recharge is more like 35c/kwh.
